Of all the gear and gizmos I own from:
trail gaiters
Suuonto watches
featherlight racing poles
numerous headtorches
hydration thingies - platypus/camelback
the best thing: the old camera film containers to keep your IBprufen and lactate buffers in ......priceless...

And they have that really nice film smell about them too! That's the one thing I miss now that everything has gone digital.
Cheers,
John. |

TAKE CARE, SNIFFING USED OLD PHOTOGRAPHIC FILM CANNISTERS CAN BE DANGEROUS.
THIS FORUM DOES NOT IN ANYWAY SUGGEST THIS WILL ENHANCE PERFORMANCE. |

I tried sniffing my digital camera but it did nothing for my performance!
Anyway my latest gadget is an 30 gb ipod complete with funky sports armband. I think it is the coolest thing to run in though I think I need to grow longer arms to fit both GPS and ipod on one arm (My right arm refuses to accept any baggage!).
However when I suggested that I run with my ipod at Ingatestone a certain club member who will remain Nameless (is that how you spell your middle name isn't it Godfrey?) said that this consigned me to the ranks of "recreational jogger" and my whole race attitude had gone to pot (no I haven't tried that for performance enhancement either).
Surely I am not alone MP3 players and ipods are a runner's necessity aren't they? Where else am I going to hear Born to Run now they've stopped playing it at the top of that nightmare hill on the TGT 10k??
And Mike (M) I just might have to start serious endurance runnning so I can listen to all 7500 songs stored on one run... |

Debbie,
7500 tracks! Wow, you could get to the moon and back with that lot. I think the wife's ipod holds about 1000 and I thought that was reasonable. Still it's all about quality not quantity - all those Black Lace tracks should be deleted icon_biggrin.gif" alt="Very Happy" border="0" />.
Cheers,
John. |

I agadon't don't don't know what you mean John!! Mind you I'm still trying to work out why my ipod has classified my Mozart CD as Electronic/dance genre!! I must do a work out to those pulsing Mozart dance beats.
I have a very varied musical taste John so I need those 7500 tracks (well that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it). As a new toy I've got a lot of space still to fill up. I think I'll pass on the black lace though (well at least on my ipod).
And to vaguely revert to this topic here's an interesting thing - ipods make you run faster! I was supposed to do an easy 5 miler last night so out with the ipod I thought. My easy run turned out to be at 7:50 pace as I got into the rhythm of rocking tracks. Get the right music (not relaxing Mozart!!) and it really does make you speed up!
So I consider this to be the best gadget for improving speed so far!
No reply from Shorty yet Mike?? You haven't offended him have you? |

Debbie,
Perhaps you ipod is confused with all those files! I know that there was an Electro album with Beethovens Fifth Symphony remixed on it (it was the worst track on the album) but I only own one classical CD (Beethovens Piano Sonatas) so I can't really say why Mozart has that effect. Still I'll watch out for all the homeboys in their stereos that prentend to be cars, pumping out some Mozza.
Getting back to the original topic the wife has a Nano and so I could get one of those funky Nike pedometer things and give running with music and getting a accurate distance all at the same time (once I can run again that is).
Anyone used one of those?
John
PS You can always tell the difference between black lace and Black Lace - one is always in fashion. |
