Well not IN the O2, but around it...
| Quote: | London's first half marathon in Greenwich
Greenwich is on its marks, ready and set to go as we prepare to host Run to the Beat - London's first ever 13-mile half marathon - on Sunday 5 October.
Run to the Beat is no ordinary running event, it will use a revolutionary technique that combines sport with music and will provide an exciting interactive challenge for fitness enthusiasts in the UK. Research has shown that this technique could improve individual performance by an impressive 20 per cent.
Race organisers are promising a festival of music and fun for spectators and competitors alike.
Tunes to motivate and boost performance
The organisers of the run have teamed-up with Dr Costas Karageorghis of Brunel University, who has been studying the huge impact music can have on sport for almost 20 years. He explained:
"I will be working closely with the organisers to scientifically deliver music throughout the 13 mile course with tunes designed to motivate and boost performance of every runner by up to 20 per cent in this very exciting new event."
Dr Karageoghis will ensure a variety of live music acts from London are strategically positioned to perform at the correct location along the route to create an inspirational impact on competitors’ personal bests, or to even just help them get round.
Want to take part?
Popular DJ, Spoony and the cast of Stomp will be lending their support to the event that will start and finish at The O2 - London’s premier music venue and a venue for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. |

I'll be in Greenwich Park as I have a 7.00am Start for my Race tomorrow.
As for Music enhancing ones running performance by up to 20% I can vouch for that as I had to excell myself once to get away from Mike Mason serenading me with Kylie Minogue songs during the Grand Union Canal race.
Good luck to all of you.
ps I have experienced something similar in a race a 12 hour race in Holland once and it does help .....a lot ! |

Ok, we did it ! Our first half and despite the rain it was a good day out. Feel sorry for those that never made the start due to transport problems, but enough of that, times are in,

Not sure if we gonna rush off and do another too soon as it nearly killed us both off lol, especially with the training that we did (or lack of), but who knows in the future maybe. Hopefully the 10ks will seem easier now eh! _________________ John G

And if you don't get into the great north next year, there will always be places in the run to the beat half marathon,

Hmm, it was ok, but a lot of comments on that site are true! Ha, I must admit to not having done a hell of a lot of runs but pouring my own water at the first water station made me smile ! _________________ John G

Yep John was right, 2hr 13min 19sec. Happy for a first time at that distance.
The weather was crap, not as bad as the Run the Course 10k but it was persistent from start to finish. A few people moaned about the hills but they were nothing compared to the hills round are way!
i came away relatively unscathed apart from 1 blister and a bad bout of joggers nipple (i'll update my profile pic, its clear to see!).
Congrats to all who finished this run and the Great North Run.
Richard. _________________ www.thevinylcountdown.com |
