First of all, a big thanks to all at Thurrock Nomads for all the hard work over the years in ensure the Essex Way Relay is such a successful event.

Now, where do we go from here?

There have been dicussion in pubs after races, and probably within clubs too, and I guess no one club wants to take over and find themselves in a position where they can't replicate the successof recent years.

To this end, I've set up a Discussion Forum, essentially to share ideas, and discuss them, and moving forward, for announcements.

You can find it at http://members7.boardhost.com/EssexWayRelay/ . It was free to set up, so I'm afraid there are adverts too.

I hope it proves useful, and please spread the word while we still have a warm glow and aching legs.

Oh, you can also suggest changes to the forum ... I configured it the same as the TGT one in a few minutes!

Regards,

Andy Clarke

post from the EWR discussion board ...

A suggestion for the future

Currently each leg is 'owned' by a club, who is responsible for checking the instructions work OK, and who rewrites it as required.

I'd like to suggest that these clubs take full ownership of their legs, and actually operate their legs on the day. This would include timekeeping, water stops, parking at the start, etc.

These clubs should also be responsible for contact the Essex County Council Public Rights of Way folk if any blockages need to be sorted out.

We then simply need an overall co-ordinator to ensure all teams are entered, and consolidate the results from each leg. I suggest this done by rotation, by each club currently in charge of each leg. Since Thurrock are in charge of leg 1, they should be excused, and have control pass to Thrift Green (leg 2) for 2009, and onwards up the line. Thurrock, thus, get a nine year break!

Discuss ...

Cheers,

Andy

Sounds like a good idea to me .... I'd be willing to be involved.

What d'ya reckon?
