The London Marathon Ltd and Nova International Ltd are delighted to announce an exciting new Road Race, the BUPA London 10,000, which will be held on the course which is expected to be used for the 2012 Olympic Marathons.

The BUPA London 10,000 (10k) will take place on Bank Holiday Monday, May 26th 2008 at 10.00am and will have 12,500 entrants in its first year. The 10,000m race will start and finish in St. James’s Park and use Green Park as its assembly area.

The BUPA London 10,000 is presented by the London Marathon Ltd and Nova International Ltd, the organisers of the BUPA Great North Run, and represents the first time these two organisations have worked closely together on such an exciting new event. London Marathon will be responsible for event logistics and Nova are working on a number of areas including sponsorship and TV coverage.

Yep, I'm in this one. In fact this is the one a few of us newbies joined the club for, to get a bit of extra training, but we seem to be getting involved !

gmike,
The FLM is truly wonderful. I did it last year and managed to finish it. Considering that 6 months prior i got out of breath walking upstairs. Get your application in asap, via a charity route now though. It guarantees you entry and a target to achieve.

Good luck

I must admit mike prior to joining BRC I had no real aspirations to marathon ... perhaps distant ones but I am starting to get the itch now.

I'm loving racing the shorter distances at the mo and have got my first half in June so we'll have to see ...

Truth be told I would love do New York in 2010 as that'll be my 40th (ouch! ... I've never said that out loud)

Just a quick heads-up for anyone heading off to the race next Monday, there will be no Circle Line or District Line meaning St James's Park station will be closed.

I'll be heading to Green Park but expect it to be really busy.

Richard.

Just checked a few train times for Monday:

0725   Dep BENFLEET (fast train)
0759   Arr  WEST HAM
0801   Dep WEST HAM (Jubilee Line)
0824   Arr  GREEN PARK

or

0755   Dep BENFLEET (fast train)
0830   Arr  WEST HAM
0836   Dep WEST HAM (Jubilee Line)
0859   Arr GREEN PARK

There is a slow train @ 0732 which gets to WEST HAM @ 0823

This'll basically give you an 1½ before kick off ... earlier trains are available @ 0655, 0632 & 0625 respectively.

These time were taken from C2C/TFL journey planner for 26/05/08 @ 1200 hrs 24/05/08 - PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK B4 TRAVELLING

Congrats on the PB richard ... best part of 6 mins under ... not bad at all.

What was that weather all about!

Missed my PB by 16 seconds ... doh! ... finally rolled in at 45:22 chip time.
5k splits were 23:36 / 21:46 ... which is a nice negative split and 2 secs off my 5k pb time.

I think by the time I got to 5k the relentless soaking I'd endured since the crack of dawn finally got the better of me and I thought bugger this I wan't to get home asap!

Bumped into Jez ... who was changed and on his way home by the time I finished! ... Well run Jez.

Thanks to Andy & Lorri for helping make light of an extremely wet & soggy day  salute

Well done to all that ran today, after doing the Duathlon yesterday I thought that the weather couldnt get much worse, Its amazing how wrong you can be sometimes.

Still I think this would have been a good event if the weather had been better, quite a nice 10k course. Not sure it's suitable for the 2012 Marathon, 4 laps would drive you mad, and there was a dodgy cobble section to get through without breaking an ankle. Still being that I dont think I will make the GB marathon squad for 2012, I wont need to worry about that.

No P.B's for Lorri and I today, our times were
595 (543) 1892 Frith, Andy M35  Benfleet Running Club 00:46:16
2209 (427) 1893 Gibson, Lorri W35  Benfleet Running Club 00:54:01

Well done Mike on a great second 5k, you left me for dead.
And well done Richard on an impressive P.B.

Any news on the other Benfleet runners?
Andy

Got to agree with Andy, this would be a great 10 km to do in good weather as the support would really push you on.But as a marathon circuit no thanks!

Weather was pants (I have a feeling its any race I do at the moment!)

Nowhere near a pb but didnt really think I would after yesterday, although I too ran a negative split. Before Debbie starts thinking its catching it was more down to the fact that I had to navigate my way past a few over eager runners at the start.

This was me

52 (3Cool 1863 Baum, Colin M50   00:37:48

Its also on BBC2 tonight at 11.35 so set the sky +

Well done all today, barmy us runners!!

cheers guys, i think it shows that despite my best efforts last time round training with people who know what they are doing is the best way to go!

I saw Lorri pass me at the water station at 3k but didnt manage to catch up to say hi.

Congratulatinos to all who ran today, the weather was truly awful.

I think i'm just about dried out now.  See you Thursday

Richard.

Hi all. Great day out and great course despite the weather. Great support that really pushed me along. My previous 10k was 62 minutes or so. Despite the weather and slight bottle neck in first couple of k in the second wave, (yes there were even q's for toilets on this route around 2k !), my results below gave me a pb that I am pleased with but really wanted 55 !

Bupa London 10,000 2008

Well done Johnnyboy.

But.......... You are always whingeing. If its not one of your knees playing up, now its not running fast enough, even though you got a PB. (just kidding you)

Well done though.

Regards

Well done to everyone - sounds like there were some fine performances yesterday.

Jez I'm less concerned that you haven't started following my race tips yet than the fact that you are inflating the performances of my work colleagues - hey how am I going to meet the challenge of trying to be one of the faster members of my profession if you start running in their names??  Fancy having a go at the Southend 10k in my name??!!   cyclops_ani

also well done to all who took part in the Bupa 10k...

Jonnyboy can you please tell Jemma from me 'well done' for her efforts, I hope she enjoyed her run despite the rain.  Shame I didn't get to see her before the race to wish her luck. By the way well done to you and Richard on your PB's

Gems time below,

5k: 00:34:23
5k-10k: 00:37:06
Finish Time: 01:11:28

Her longest run to date so she did well. Poor girl suffered from a few blisters but kept going and finished with a nice sprint so well done to her. I will try to drag her along on Thursday if she isnt revising for her A level mocks or out with mates  angel12

Hi Karl,

my number, John Goulding, was 5856

Gemma Young was 5858

Richard Lowery was 1895

Paul Johnson was 9284 (running under the name of jamie girling who couldnt make it )

Michael Hoy didn't take part due to a cold.

They are the ones that I know of, hope that helps.

(For your records my last 10k was the Run London Nike 10k in October 2006 with a time of, i think, around 62/63 minutes but at the moment cannot find the official results online.)
