Mike , its very difficult to give a record for a time in this race as every year the course is different, in length as well as terain, plus the weather can be so extreme in different ways, the year i run /walked/ crawled there was little wind the previous year they had 60 mph sandstorms for a whole week .
You hardly ever ever see BRITS IN THE TOP 50.. so what G is achieving is AWSOME ! |

Over to you then Kirste. How does your mate hold the record?
Runningman, you are quite right. Graham has done great so far. I trust he will finish and we can all have a jolly up with him. Not only has he done Benfleet Running Club proud, he has put GB on the map in more ways than one
(GB= Great Britain/Graham Booty)
C'mon Graham!!! go go go |

A couple of other things for all you peoples watching G to take into consideration is the deifferance in TEMP ! it was a chilly 6 degrees at 5 am and a rather warm 40 deg at 2 pm ( THATS bloody hot ) therefore some of the backmarkers and mid packers will have been running in both extremes ( try dressing for that )
Dont stress if you dont see anymore results for a while because the only people runnig today will be the ones still running stage 4 from yesterday some will be out there for 30 hrs plus !!!
G will have a nice day in his tent reading your messages and sleeping !
Gaza
Just a marathon and a 15 miler to go |

That really is something else.
Just finishing the thing is mindblowing but what G is doing moving up the field like that is something I can't put into words...........
Relentless.

STAGE N°5 : OUED AHSSIA / ISK N’BRAHIM– 42,2 Km
| Quote: | This “resting” day – only truly restful for the lead of the race – allows bodies to have a break, especially after huge temperature variations (35°C difference between night and day) and a course most competitors described as “really complex”. Tomorrow is the classic marathon day, a last test before the fairly easy final stage. Despite tiredness, and a blasting heat, there’s a definite sense of relief on the bivouac, nearly a holiday feel…
This stage is a “tour de force” not only for the runners but also for the organisation: everyone has to give its best, especially in the night time. A laser will be guiding the competitors who also have luminous sticks and distress flares. Doctors and race officials are spread along the course in six check points. They will not getting more sleep than the runners, staying up all night, under the supervision of two most useful helicopters. Today more than ever, managing the race is a real challenge. Some competitors plan to run straight to the next bivouac; others will be making good use of the last three check points to get some rest and have a bite to eat. |

I don't know if many of you have looked closely at the video clips on the MdS website. But one thing struck me as I was scanning the terrain this morning.........................it looks like a bloody desert out there! Amazing...may be a trick of the light..... _________________ 'sometimes I am running so fast it appears that rocks and trees are standing still......' As the course changes each year they have a course record but he did it in 21 hours (or was it 22!) He is a guide for a blind runner in the olympics as well, and won gold in the Australian Olympics - top bloke. I made the mistake of saying 'we must do a run' when I first met him and it was then he told me he had a PB of 2.19 for the marathon.......I turned back.
I think anyone who even contemplates this event is a soooooo brave. |

WRONG DEAR BOY, if you click on his name it will give u his overall position ! 39 was his position in that stage !
Cant believe theyve changed the goalposts again ! and made it harder ! traditionally the last day is a swift 15 miler now its bloody 26 miles !
so i dont think G will get inside 30 hrs as i predicted ! |

Done a piece for the Echo on Graham even before he's back! Anyone know if there are any pics at all of our GB that the Echo could use? I have one Steff took but last time I sent it to the Echo they didn't use it and I thought it was pretty good too! Anyone got any they could send to me please? Thanks.

| Hey Mike. Feet held out really well. Self treated them, never had to go the medical tent and only suffered a few blisters and a couple of nails hanging off, nothing compared to the rest of the tent. Daily foot bath and fresh socks really helped. Certainly there is an element of luck involved in this race. If your feet go bad early, or you suffer from the bouts of vomiting and diarrhoea that plagued the bivouac then your perfomance is massively affected now matter how well conditioned and determined you are. I was lucky! I also carried a lot more food than most which I'm sure really helped keep my strength up and allowed my body to recover. I only got the trots on the final night.......loo roll was a precious commodity by then so I was very glad you guys had sent me a lot of messages....... |
