|
|
This is an event run for CLUB MEMBERS only, and will be your last long training run before the London Marathon (or any other marathon, or training you are planning) You can run up to a distance of 22 miles.
i.e. you can run any distance you prefer, up to the full total of 22 miles.
You can elect to do any distance you feel comfortable with, or a distance that your coach has suggested would be beneficial to your training schedule.
This is your run.
It is your chance to do all the things in practice before the big day.
run the distance you want to, and the pace you have decided.
Please indicate on the notice board your predicted pace, and you will be grouped with like-paced runners.
You will have a designated driver who will take you out to the start, and you will have full support on the miles back to home (Clive's house).
You can opt to stop at any point along the course.
There will be water stations at every mile, from mile 3 onwards.

WE NEED MORE DRIVERS TO MAKE THIS EVENT HAPPEN
Please volunteer if you have always run this event and never driven, or if you are free and can help.
Thanks in advance. |

|
|
If you are experimenting with your diet, then this week should be your "dry-run" for London Marathon.
I have posted a "carbo-loading" diet diary for this week. This is very basic, and there are plenty of other websites going into more detail, but it is something to think about prior to the big Sunday run.
22 Miles is a long way, respect it, learn from it and above all enjoy it.
It is not a race, it is not a time trial and it is not meant to be at your race pace.
If it is you will not recover in time for London, believe me (we have all done it)

Karl,
This run was excellent for me last year, ok I only did 14 miles of it but not having run anything other than Southend Seafront, found it a great experience. Wont be doing this years run as not fit enough.
Fit i said, I'm fat enough lol |

Yes, echo that, thanks Clive & Lynn and to all the drivers for being there after every mile and all the encouragement. Bit disconcerted to be starting with Ironman and Ironwoman, good of Graham to carry half a ton in his rucksack to even things out....cheers Caroline.
My first one and I really enjoyed the route, the scenery, the company and despite a nagging feeling that I'd like to finish the whole route, took the advice (for once!) of experienced runners and stopped at 20 rather than slog home.
Not sure I recommend standing in the ice cold water for 10 mins...?? Still not too bad now so maybe it helped !
Good work and well done everyone, lovely day |

Yep, as ever this event can never happen without all the great drivers, support teams, water stations and Lynn and Clive to organise it all.
Best cup of the tea of the day goes to Lynn - brilliant !
(Plus if you didn't / couldn't run as far as you had planned, it is your bodies way of saying "take it easy, you have done enough already"
Don't think you have to put even more training from now on. You don't !) |

The club and today would not function without Clive and Lyn and all the other senior members but today was a fantastically organised event with all drivers and water station helpers providing excellent service, thanks to all those who provided me with essential jelly babies as I’m a longish distance newbie and they were essential as without them I may not have made 18 which I must admit was pleasure with the help of Karl and Godfrey,
Thanks to all involved with TODAY. |

Glad the run wasn't today, It wouldn't have been fun to run or to man the water stations.
I had a great morning helping out and who knows next year it could be me running (that will make it a late day for the last water stops) _________________ Whad'ya mean "Run fat boy, run"? I AM running! |

BUT - if you know in your heart-of-hearts you haven't done enough training you can't make up for lost ground ----
Just re-assess your goals for the marathon and adjust them.
And enjoy the day. |

Thankyou to all involved, fantastic support. You are all brilliant.
All us runners had to do was run and not worry about anything other than the distance!
Getting lost however was my own fault!
Never mind! Haha!

Some good pictures from the event....bit concerned that I look a bit camp in my utility belt against Benfleet running vest especially with bouffant hair and cheddar cheese smile.....still, hey ho |
