Did this for the first time yesterday. Bl**dy hell, it was a tough one but also brilliant in equal measures.
11 miles 4500 feet of ascent, most of which comes in the latter half with three big steep ascents. Also, depending on what route you took, quite a bit of it was pathless and covered in heather and bracken.
For some reason, I didn't have a good run. The body just didn't want to run (or walk for that matter) for the first two miles and when I could run I felt tired. Just one of those days, I suppose. But the challenge of the course and the comraderie of the other competitors made it a great day.
For anyone thinking about doing a mountain marathon anytime, I would certainly recommend the race or just visiting the area for a weekend.
