I'm definitely getting old....making a cup of tea at the office last week, turned to put teabag in bin and suffered a wierd back spasm which caused me considerable discomfort.

Managed the 10 mile run on Thursday, however back was burning a bit and towards the end of run noticed slight landing pain in my right foot.
Sure enough, playing tennis on Saturday my back was killing me and my foot was getting worse to the point of proper difficulty actually walking.

Had to miss 15 mile run on Sunday, which I was really looking forward to as it would have been the longest I've run - back hopefully on the mend now though quite concerned about the foot, which I can only assume hurts from the pounding on the pavement. Or perhaps the tights, who knows....

Ah well, going to take a few days recuparation, hope to see you soon, perhaps the rest will do me good as I've been so laboured in my running lately, miles away from my motivated ambitious starting point.

Aha, the curse of the tea-bag strikes again.

I had a very similar experience with a cup of coffee when I left the spoon in

....nearly took my eye out !

Hmmm  sounds a bit like Plantar fasciitis. But what was root cause is difficult to establish. Your back pain may have caused you to land differently to try and offset the pain.  Obviously a strong cup of tea. Whatever happens don't let it fester..............if no improvement seek out Gemma at Benfleet Physio.....

I was just looking at the Benfleet Physio site and pondering whether to get a diagnosis - don't really want to throw away £30 if it only needs a few days rest.

Don't think it's plantar doo dah, as I've looked a few of these things up and tried to match up the symptons - although difficult to be precise about where the pain emanates from, almost like a cramping pain if I try and stretch the foot out.

Blooming annoying not knowing what I should be doing with either my back or foot for the best though....perhaps physio is best...

I've gone searching for symptons of foot pain on two or three sites and nothing is matching up with the problem i seem to have - hopefully it's just bruising, got to be caused by running a bit differently due to bad back as too much of coincidence.

Not too sure about the back pain either...could just be early onset of middle age creakage, best achieve all my running goals this year before the wheels completely fall off !

Get well soon mate.
I've got patellofemoral pain syndrome.
(Mangled knee)!
More weight lifting on the quads for a week will hopefully sort it.
Being injured is rubbish.
cheers

Thought I hadn't seen you for a few sessions Steffan, being injured is indeed rubbish, get well soon yourself matey. Stacey injured too I think if I read one of her posts right. Happens to the best and mediocre of us !

I'm sitting here itching to do a few miles....probably do more harm than good, just wish I knew what exactly I've done, finally make use of my Latin 'o' level to translate it !

JimmyBilly's Daddy - could be a simple thought no less painful heel bruise.....

Steffan, hi. My PFS was ultimately weak medial glute and piriformis. With such a pert and shapely butt as I have this suprised me. However, I digress.

Bottom line.....great pun....foam roller and stretching did the trick. Good luck.....

Hello Jimmy

Regrettably i work nights or rather semi nights finish at 2am They call it the twilight shift for some reason so i haven't been able to attend any club sessions to date I have met a few of the guys and gals at some race meets.

Hopefully sometime i shall get down to some sessions at some point
Best thing is i can get the bulk of training done in daylight
Get fit soon.

Ok, be good to see you sometime, agree with the daylight comment, surprised we don't have more injuries with the state of the pavements in the dim lit streets.

Gave club session a miss, but did a comfortable 4 miles with back and foot holding up well, tennis this weekend should be a test though, hope to back down club Tues....

Jimmy my sympathies are with you.  My ankle is croc and hasnt run for 10 weeks.  Awaiting fancy photograph and date with man with many letters after his name......

Discover the benefits of cross training, proper yoga and a good physio.  Running is good but a bugger of a sport for injuries.  If we all stretched more, did more weights and in my case didnt leap onto the edge of a concrete paving slab in the dark we'd not have so much time off.

Hi Lucy,

Hope the news is good for you....it's been a little frustrating for me but when you're a proper good runner it has to be worse, best of luck with quick recovery.

I had physio session with Gemma yesterday (very strong thumbs) and whilst my back spasm area is bruised, it's nothing more than regular lower back pain that should go away in a few weeks - just knowing that helps.

Footwise, bruisng by the looks of things, as ok ish now, possibly in need of new insole on my running shoes or indeed new shoes (bought in May last year, though grip seems ok). Possibly another early lesson on the importance of quality footwear when pounding the pavement.

Good session tonight, nice to get those lungs working hard again. again

I read somewhere that if you get a length of dental floss under the ingrowing toenail and leave it there it will grow out? Don't quote me on that though, mine fall off when their badly bruised!!!!

Get well soon all...........

I use Toenail Softening Solution on mine and put a plaster on it before I run.
Whatever you do dont try to "dig" it out.
It takes time but eventually it should sort itself out but if not then minor surgery removing a sliver of the offending nail can be carried out quite successfully.
Sometimes losing a toenail such as this in a major race is a blessing (my record is 9 toenails in one race)

As for the pain part then........tough.
