Hello to all,
As we expand the activities within the club, and also to to keep parents/guardians involved as much as possible this should be the first many emails.

If we have your email address it means you have completed a membership form. WELL DONE !

If your children have been issued a membership card, it means you have paid their annual membership fee. WELL DONE !

(obviously if you haven't paid then this is a subtle reminder - it's only £ 5 per year)

Next Session - 22nd January

As well as the normal indoor activities, we will be taking all the children outside on a slighter longer run than normal. It will be pitched at their level, and in small manageable groups. Please ensure they have extra layers, a waterproof coat (with hood) and gloves/hats if they normally need them.

Next Race - 9th February

We are focusing on the Brands Hatch 1 mile fun run as the next race. A few of our children are taking part, and if yours is interested they may have brought home the entry form (if you need a form please reply and I will email one to you). Closing date for this is 1st February, and we can send off the forms together if forms and payment are returned this week. You can also send your own form off, if required.

ENTRY FORM can be downloaded from here

Norwich Union Shine Awards

We have enrolled the Junior Club in the Norwich Union shine:awards

The Norwich Union shine:awards is a flagship development of UK Athletics, which reflects its vision - 'fun to fulfilment'.
The Norwich Union shine:awards provide opportunities for children from the age of three and upwards to try athletics through fun physical challenges and rewards them for their efforts. They promote an incentive to learn and to develop individual athletic skill through four levels of activity:

Level 1 - 'play and learn', 3-8 yrs
Level 2 - 'participation', 7-12 yrs
Level 3 - 'getting better', 11-15 yrs
Level 4 - 'performance', 14yrs +

Our Juniors start at age 8+ so we will be concentrating on Level 2

The Level 2 Awards' focus aim to 'participation', and provide an awards structure for 7 to 12-year-olds. To encourage the participation of all children at this Level it is sufficient that the child has tried and completed the activities to achieve a reward.  The child can receive a sticker for every five activities completed, up to a maximum of 6 stickers. These stickers can be collected on a Record of Achievement card. Each set of 5 activities may be from any of the following sections: Jumping, Combinations, Running, Throwing or Fitness and Fun.  All of the activities at Level 2 have performance targets.

Sport Relief Weekend 14th-16th March

The main club has a cross country fixture on the Sunday, but just thinking if we could get involved in this maybe on the Saturday 15th March with a 1 mile run with children and parents ? There are organised races (the nearest is Chelmsford) but think there is enough of us to do our own run – thoughts anyone ??

Other Stuff

The club website has information for yourself, and your children so please look at it regularly.

The main running club website is also a wealth of knowledge and experience.

The club forum has a section for the Junior Club, and it is well worth a regular visit.

Every week we have children leaving drinks bottles, clothing etc. in the hall. As ever, please remind your children to collect their belongings at the end of the session. Our session ends at 7pm, and we have a football training session straight after ours, so please vacate the hall quickly, or risk getting hit by flying footballs !

Lastly

Thank you for bringing your children to the club, I know they really enjoy it and please feel free to let us know your thoughts.

We want to involve you as much as possible, so give us your feedback - good and bad.
