(not that our super-fast fast boys and girls will need any - go for it !)

Gutted,
ran my legs off today for runners up spot, shockingly bad turn out from Benfleet.

Those that ran did so with guts and determination, brings a tear to your eye seeing your clubmates giving 110% against the odds. Good on you all.

Next year, we'll get that title back..................

Well done to Thrift Green Trotters, quality and consistant running.

how did we loose that ?, seemed to have about 10 in the top 20 and we had the leading lady , i know thrift green had 2 ladies well up there and they had the winning man and 4th place i think , otherwise there werent many of them i dont think .

personally i pulled out after 500m when my calf tightened , shame as i was feeling good .

roll on next year

ONE TREE HILL X-COUNTRY REPORT

There was bitter disappointment for the reigning champions in the final race of X-country League at One Tree Hill being pipped at the final post by Thrift Green Trotters.

Despite having 3 men in the top ten (Graham Booty 4th, Tony Mead 6th and Jez Mancer 7th for the 2nd race in a row we were beaten into 2nd place by Thrift Green by 10 points which meant that Benfleet finished runners up in the championship.

However there was consolation as Stacey Ward blasted home in 1st place way ahead of her nearest rival finishing so impressively that she took not only the ladies trophy but finished in 7th place in the mixed field sandwiched between her male team-mates Tony Mead and Jez Mancer.

Charlotte was 7th and Denise Dudley was 9th showing that once again Benfleet’s ladies have been strong and consistent throughout.

It was perhaps the toughest course of the season, boggy and very slippery even Crispian Bloomfield had a spectacular mud slide down the 1st hill when it was pleasing to see Tony Mead overtake him in his moment of misfortune!

Even our esteemed captain took a tumble coming up the final hill but in true Benfleet spirit got to his feet straight away and didn’t lose a place!

The other male scorers were Andy Morris, who has been strong throughout the series improving with every race, who was 17th Dessie in 18th place and Steffan joining the scorers in this final race in 21st place. Paul Prosser made the trek from Brighton to make up the final scoring position in 22nd place.

We may have been defeated but those green shirts cannot break our spirit. Let us not forget that our ladies have been 1st in every race apart from this last one and we have probably had the best mens team for several years with Graham Tony and Jez battling it out to prove who is top dog on the mud ! It looks like the victor is Graham this year. But there’s always next season…..

And watch it you Trotters “We’ll be back !!!”

Well done to all you muddy cross country runners for yesterday. If you would like any of the images from the gallery I would be pleased to email the full file images to you. Just send me an email with the image number and I will attach it to the reply. Unlucky for not winning the series, but a fantastic effort nonetheless.........Ian Maguire
