If you own the fantastic 305 and are doing a marathon sometime soon have a look............

http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/garmin

The best thing is you can change workouts to fit with Ian's (coach) instructions or club sessions.
Sub 3 anyone?!!!!!

Steffan, thanks for reminding me that I have a 101 and a 201, neither of which can do this...

Steffan don't feel bad. I really wanted one of these. I had a 201 at the time. And the opportunity to ditch this and HRM watch was great (think of the weight save). But the only problem is that the 201 and 305 are rechargeable. It means that after about 10 hours in the middle of nowhere they die ( a bit like me actually). Failing carrying a mobile charger on wheels I decided to get the battery powered 101 - can't download anything but easy to change a battery.

I am now on my second garmin 305. The first broke down after approx 10 runs. the second has been working fine but at the Essex 20 couldnt locate the satellites. Steff advised me to update which I thought I have done. Now my soon to be stamped on Garmin will not locate any satellites ( it gets to the c in locate then goes back to searching) and the date of the device seems to be feb 2017 when paired with the computer.I cannot seem to change this.Am I being stupid or is there a reset button that I need to press effectively like a re boot> any IDEAS gratefully received or no 2 will have to go back to garmin!!

Jez, see what chipset software you have, the latest seems to be v2.90.
My 305 had problems locating satellites but with the latest chipset, this seemed to fix it.

Try the chipset from here:

http://www.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3289

The differences between v2.70 and v2.90 are:

* Improved ability to acquire a satellite fix while moving around warming up and stretching.
* Improved satellite tracking reliability for multi-hour activities.

Jez,
If all else fails, do a hard reset.
(only downside is you loose all training data stored in the watch.)

Press mode and reset together
release reset but keep holding mode
press power button
you will get a message come up
select yes

job done!

I had to do this a couple of weeks ago when my 305 wouldn't switch on, its been fine ever since!

You could proberly transfer your training data to your PC first, then do the hard reset then copy it back to the watch again after.

does anyone else have weird pulse readings at the start of runs. ie it reads as about 170 when it should be about 115 , it happens right at the start of a run and usually reverts to normal after about 5 mins of running. it happened several times back in september then not again until my last 2 runs. otherwise its works fine but its a tad annoying as im trying to keep my pulse below 120 at the mo

David, hi. I only have the Garmin 101 and 201. But both do the same ie early reading is high and then gets to normal. So my advice is don't worry......print this off an remember when you call me from Intensive Care some time.... Smile

David, when you first turn the unit on it will search and get a lock on the heart rate monitor, to help it out, keep away from any electrical items as they will cause erratic readings!

Also, under the chest strap, make shure you moisten the contact areas with a drop of water/spit!

Hope that helps!

Just noticed on runnersworld website, you can now download the Marathon training schedule for any marathon. Not just London as it was previously.

You enter the date for the marathon you are training for and then the programme will start 16 weeks prior to that.

So Luton anyone????

Anybody used a Forerunner 305 in Hockley Woods?

I wondered if it kept locked on with the tree cover.

Not sure if anyone else has realised this but , the charger for my Tom Tom fits into the charger base for the Garmin 305. Hence a ready made car charger. Just thought I would mention it!

I have probably just been a bit slow in realising it and those of you with a Tom Tom are probably already using it. But if not its good to be able to charge the watch on the way to a race if you have forgotten the night before.
