I know Paul McInerney ran as I passed him in the last 200 metres but he didn't run in his own name.

| Haven't seen a result for Terry Turner. Sure he was running because he asked about getting a shirt named. |

| Thanks Karl I meant to ask about Gary yesterday as I found Nicky's time and wondered if it was him or if he'd run with her. It's added to my list of results. |

| Updated my list of results above we have 59 runners so far now - 60 with Paul Mc. I believe that Gordon is one of ours. Awesome number of runners. I'm still working on it. You'd think I'd have something better to do on a bank holiday than work through our members list and search them on the marathon results website!! |

Okay that's it till I get Clive's list of the people on the coaches so I can check I haven't missed anyone from that list. Hopefully I got everyone.
So final numbers check 62 Benfleet runners 63 with Paul Mc (though I can't find a time for him). |

| Once again Benfleet runners have made us proud by taking part in the London Marathon. We all know the time, dedication and commitment it takes to compete in the Marathon. Not only by the runner but also by the rest of the family who take over various jobs and chores and who have to listen to the details step by step of runs, sagas of various injuries and provide a consant souce of support and encouragement. On the reverse of my l999 medal it states "Success is a journey, not a destination" And it is true. The journey we make to the start line is longer than the run iteself. The searching in ourselves for the willpower to go out and run on those cold winter mornings when everyone else is having a lie in. The effort it takes to get out of the armchair after a hard days work, and the loss of freedom to enjoy a Saturday night out. But having completed your journey to the point where there is no turning back and you are standing among the thousands who you do not know but who have made that journey with you. That is when I hope you all felt that you had achieved your goal by being there and ready to go. The first thingwe tend to ask when somebody says they have run the marathon is "what time did you do?" But really this is irrelevant. The fact that you were willing to contemplate this feat in the first place is a victory in itself. So to all of you who took part, regardless of where you finished, not withstanding how long it took you, be grateful you were there,be glad it is all over, but most of all be proud you made the journey and reached your destination. Well done to you all. |

As Jez said, if you don't get goosebumps going over Tower Bridge then there is something wrong...
Plus, on the course, when I went through the underpass and it said
"in 3 miles you make history"
really sums up the whole marathon event, and that is why we do it. |
