Well it's the last race of this season and with 4 wins out of 4 we need everyone to turn up and run at South Weald this Sunday to try and make a clean sweep.
Race starts at 10.30 am as usual and details of how to get there are listed under the x-country section on the website. Alternatively if you require a lift or want to follow someone there, we're meeting at Tarpots opposite the snooker centre at 9.00 am.

Okay everyone another fine piece in the Echo today about the Cross Country and the mistake about the Bentley results has been rectified Jez
And the battle between you and Graham is highlighted for all to see so we're really looking forward to the tussle on Sunday - it's 2 all at the moment in the Jez/Graham contest this is the decider. And an even better incentive is the fact that Crispian Bloomfield and Ryan Prout are both doing the Bury 20 (Crispian told me himself) so that 1st place is up for grabs guys
Come on as Coach says we want everyone there to share in the victory and another win for Benfleet in the final race - we've never done 5 out of 5 before
And anyone with cameras spectating please take as many pics as possible so I have a good selection to chose. |

Hi All,
I have just heard at work the junction with Weald Road & the High St is closed as the pub is being demolished.
If you are driving up the A128 I would cross the double roundabout, turn Left before Sainsbury's into William Hunter Way, left at the end then Right into Weald Road.
Or if you have driven down the High St, carry on down the road past the BT building, turn Right into Honey Pot Lane, then Left into Weald Road. _________________ Whad'ya mean "Run fat boy, run"? I AM running! |

Oi - what about the Essex champs at Gloucester Park? 3-2?
If that doesn't count I'll think you'll find it's on points scored. I'm 7 points up and I'm going to need everyone single one of them - I have a huge night out Saturday, UFC at the O2, so my only aim is to try and hang on and finish <6points behind Jez.
And I will applaud louder than anyone if he scoops gold. |

| And another thing - are there going to be many Benfleet spectators there? Looking for someone to keep half an eye on me kids for about 26 minutes. |

Ah I'm just talking about the South Essex League Graham - Essex Champs is another story !!
And yes you'll get the credit on the points score - my piece in the Yearbook shows runner's average score and yes you are ahead at the moment!!
I'm sure there will be someone to look after your kids Graham - I can't offer as I'll be very distracted doing photos and supporting
NOTE - NOT running :blackeye: |

I'll only run if you wait for me at the finish shivering in your vest while I roll in ages after you with 20 miles in my legs from Sat and if you round up the other club members so I can take a pic :blackeye:
And you have 10 years on me Jez
But I wear well |

CONGRATULATIONS EVERYONE! Not only were we League Champions but it was 5 out of 5 wins and by miles! Our 2nd lowest score of the series - 86 points- we were 157 points ahead of 2nd place Billericay!!
Well done too to Graham hung over and finished 2nd in the mens field. Awesome running and thanks for the support at 17.5 miles of my run to the race I needed a boost in those last few miles
Karen was 1st lady and we had an incredible 6 ladies in the top 6 - yes we took the lot - Tracy 2nd Gail 3rd Charlotte 4th Jacqui 5th Vanessa 6th. And new girl Tao Liu who joined the club this week was 9th!
But the men were seriously impressive we had 3 in the top 10 - along with Graham were Jez 5th and Mike Briggs 7th - what a find he is! With no 2nd claimers running in the mens field it was an outstanding performance by Benfleet's men - Colin now finding his cross country legs 13th, Andy Morris 15th Keiron in his 1st one of the season 17th and Dave Thomson 21st.
I got some great pics of the team thank you all for staying and being so patient while everyone was rounded up - I was proud to be there even if I didn't run a single race but at least I could support 3 of them.
WELL DONE BENFLEET |

| Top 6. Geez, talk about domination. And Catherine was injured, Stacey was off in the higher echelons of the nationals or interplanetaries or something, Lucy was smashing her 20 mile PB, Debbie still hasn't booked her XC hypnotherapy course (they really arent that bad Debs!)......how about a top ten target for a clean sweep next season girls? Now that would be a bit special. |

Ah Graham that would be something! We had 8 in the top 10 at the 1st race only missed out on 5th and 9th so it's got to be done! And Stacey was busy finishing an amazing 21st at Parliament Hill on Sat in the interplanetaries- scarily fast!
I'm working on the reverse aversion therapy treatment at the moment - apparently the trick is to believe the mud and hills are a lovely flat road, might be a bit tricky keeping this image now my favourite x country is being axed - Stubbers Bet Stacey's gutted too she loves it.
Yes next year's goal all top 10 places - we need to outlaw Loretta Sollars and Teresa Ward and we're laughing!!
Oh by the way my report and pics (on the League Winners thread) will be in Friday's Echo so go buy!! |

"We would dominate the XC leagues if fully supported by members, and without several of our top runners, who were involved in the Nationals, we can be proud of those who fought all the way to ensure the runnersup place was ours. We can look back at this seasons Xc events with pride, but reflect what might have been. Benfleet took the title of champions for the first time in three years, and we look forward to relieving them of the title next season".

Ah Stu ( TGT )
The old “ If only we had our strongest team out” excuse …….
Couldn’t agree more
Its been the same for us all season
For the first race we got 9 ladies in the top 11 positions, since then we haven’t managed a full team
Only got the top 6 positions last weekend !
Understand your frustrations about losing your best runners to the nationals
What about the other 4 races ?
Key to doing well at the XC is strength in depth, and team spirit
We didn’t have a single 2nd claim runner in last weeks men’s team
And if we took out our 2nd claim ladies, we would have still got all top 3 places !
Look forward to the challenge of next year
Hopefully you can motivate your troops to come out and play
Regards
Mike ( 124th on Sunday – But loved it )

Mikey
Thought you might be interested in a quote from TGT website about the South Essex League
This is a friendly (fun) form of cross-country running.
Yeah sounds like they really have entered into that spirit doesn't it?
However I wish to convey my most heart felt thanks to the 2 TGT's that picked me up about 1/2 mile from South Weald Park and offered me a lift after I had already run 20.3 miles to the start. They were very friendly and didn't knife me in the back although they looked a bit uncomfortable as their team mates were giving me funny looks as they pulled up in the carpark! I did assure them I wasn't competition as I wasn't running the race
Actually if I'd admitted to being Benfleet's PR lady they'd probably have had even more reason to lynch me!!! |
