As in previous Ultra's - if you could refrain from posting in here and I will try and text back to BaseCamp with updates on all our runners and get the forum updated by ghost writing.

Latest email from the organiser

The route is drying out rapidly so should be reasonable underfoot.....

JackL says:
They're off; now all they need to do is run in circles for the rest of the day! Suggested iPod tune "Dizzy" by Vic Reeves & Wonderstuff Wink

08:32 Good news: if it was a Half Marathon they'd be in the pub laughing about the weather. Smile
08:32 Bad news: As it is an Ultra they have over three more Half Marathons to do and hail stones are currently raining down! Sad

Actual Karl SMS: "13 miles done. Hail stones."

JackL says: They are all still in the race. BRC runners laugh at adverse conditions! Smile

10:07 Good news: Weather has changed, the sun is out. Jez and Graham have got to the end of a normal Marathon! Karl is at the 19 mile mark and Lucy has just past him (she's 5 miles ahead). Karl and Gary(?) have her in their sights!

10:07 Bad news: No word of Paddy's progress (perhaps when it was raining cats and dogs he got distracted Wink ).

Actual Karl SMS: 19 miles. Sun has come out. Jez graham thro 26 lucy just gone past 5 miles ahead but we are catching!

This ultra was a 40th birthday "mid-life-crisis" run and I wanted to get past the 40 mile mark.

In the end I did the full 52.4 miles, but the spooky thing is I can 40th !!

Excel results here (in order)

Mike Inkster said this was to be the last 50 miler......

"I have reluctantly taken the decision to cancel the 30 Mile Challenge in September this year. This is the first step in an effort to consolidate resources and keep the 50 Mile Challenge going in 2008. I'm sure that those of you who have done the 50 miler will appreciate the decision and the spirit in which it's been made. " - Mike

So, who is planning on doing it in 2008.....?

The provisional date is Sunday 10th August 2008. We have moved the date slightly to keep the farmers happy and to try and avoid the harvest as much as possible as well as giving us a better chance of having our usual car park and camping field. There will becouple of other minor changes to the organisation but these will, we hope improve the Challenge for the future. I have made the decision to increase the entry fee to £35.00 for individuals and £50 for teams in an effort to keep the Challenge viable whilst allowing the standards to be maintained. I still feel that compared to other ‘similar’ events this still represents excellent value for money.
