Relay For Life is a unique fundraising event. It gives your community the chance to celebrate the lives of those touched by cancer and to raise money to bring hope for the future.
There will be Live bands, Chelmsford Radio Roadshow, military parachute teams, police interceptor teams, a fun zone (bouncy castles etc), chill zone (massage, pilates), outdoor cinema and much more!
PLEASE support them all by bringing sacks of unwanted clothes/shoes down to the club to give to Clive/Lyn, and also see the notice boards for various fundraising events.
THANKS.
Once I know the online fundraising website I will re-post.

thinks it's all over - it is now ! Relay for Life has been a 24 hour emotional roller coaster. So many miles (team total to follow) but hero's #1 Clive who did it all non-stop and exceeded two marathons + , Peter W and Alan double marathons +, and hero's #2 everybody else !
Full report to follow.
Fantastic effort guys and it was brilliant to see the whole team in operation on Saturday. Always knew the hail storm and the downpours wouldn't dampen spirits.
And as for the old duffers - truly inspirational!!!!
A brave team of 17 Benfleet Running Club members took on the Cancer Research Relay for Life at Chelmsford at the weekend. The race, which raises substantial funds for the charity, is a 24 hour track race where each team must keep at least one team member walking/running on the track at all times.
“SUPERCLIVE”
Clive Hopkins, club Chairman, took this too literally and walked the entire 24 hours non-stop and clocked up 73 miles, and fellow long distance walkers Peter Watson Snr and Alan O’Rawe not to be left out, both walked double marathons, and walked in excess of 60 miles each. Lorna Garrod also ran a 3:34 hour marathon on the track, and followed this up with a half marathon on the Sunday after some sleep. No sleep for Clive though, and at 74 years old was the oldest of the Benfleet Team, named “The Random Wanderers”, with Anni Mahr the youngest at 10 years old, who also walked 10 miles.
Team Captain Trudy Mahr said after the event “this event is vital in raising funds for the charity, and it was great to see so many team members out this year. Dad (Clive) was amazing, and put us young ones to shame, although it was good to see the Junior Club well represented.”
Amy Cadman and Isabelle De Cristophano, both members of the Benfleet Junior Club walked a marathon (26.2 miles), along with other junior team members Robin Mahr and friend Tom.
Younger still was Gemma Cadman and Fffion Lloyd, who both walked a half marathon (13 miles) over the 24 hour event. The whole team tally was 480 miles, and in-between all the walking and running, Anni, Ffion, and Gemma were selling toys, books, and candles to raise extra funds for the charity.
Whilst blisters and aching limbs were guaranteed, Jackie Cadman was attempting the race just 3 months after breaking her ankle and having a plate and seven screws fitted. “This really is team effort and such an emotional event” she added. Team members were also involved in the World Record Apple Bobbing attempt, with over 300 people apple bobbing at once!
Amy doing one lap "juggling" to raise extra donations !

Amy Cadman and Isabelle De Cristophano, both members of the Benfleet Junior Club walked a marathon (26.2 miles), along with other junior team members Robin Mahr and friend Tom Ford, with day visitor Emily Ruschen aged 12 keeping them company for part of the race.
Younger still was Gemma Cadman and Ffion Lloyd, who both walked a half marathon (13 miles) over the 24 hour event. The whole team tally was 480 miles, and in-between all the walking and running, Anni, Ffion, and Gemma were selling toys, books, and candles to raise extra funds for the charity.

Sunday visitors John and Janet Butcher helped the team effort by walking a further 13 miles each to make the weekend truly memorable.
Whilst at the other end of the Country, club members were taking on another similar endurance event in the 3 Peaks challenge. This involves climbing the three highest peaks in the country (Scafell Pike, Ben Nevis and Snowdon) within a 24 hour time limit.
Even after trouble parking at Snowdon, and losing 20 minutes, which dedicated driver Ian Jordan denied was not his fault, the brave team of Alison Horsley, Aysin Hunt, Terry Spooner, Peter Stalley, and Mike Jordan completed the 3 highest mountains all in 23 hours and 40 mins.
