"Brighton Marathon 2011 will be bigger and better, organisers have vowed.

The Argus can reveal that entry into next year's event will be open within the next three weeks in the hope of attracting two or three thousand more runners.

Race director Tim Hutchings also said that readers are helping to shape the future of the marathon as organisers look through comments and blogs left on websites.

Following the success of Sunday’s race a provisional date of May 7 has been set for marathon entries.

Mr Hutchings and his team are due to have a meeting with Brighton and Hove City Council tomorrow where they will discuss Sunday's event and plans for next year.

The Argus understands that if the race is given the go ahead, the second Brighton Marathon is likely to take place on Sunday April 10, the week before the 2011 London Marathon.

Mr Hutchings said: “We want to strike while the iron's hot because people are very keen to take part in the marathon again.”

For those who are interested the Preston Park Travel Lodge website is now taking bookings for next April, and the Saturday night is avaliable on a saver for £ 22.

Preston Park overlooks the start line.

It is also the start of the Essex Easter school holidays. I have booked already, whether I am running or not.

As I have the missus and three childeren under the age of 6 coming with me its more convenient for them if we stay in a hotel near the finish rather than the start, so Im swerving the Travel Lodge again. But if anyone who has not already booked or any new comers Ive found this one which seems quite reasonable.

http://umihotelbrighton.co.uk/

Its right on the seafront near the Pier ( finish line ) and a double room is £65 or £85 for a family room. Ive been looking all morning for a seaffront hotel and most are either booked or cost over £140 !

11 already in, we cant have an odd number. Whats happened to the other Steve H ?

OK Steve, we won't take it personally.  Very Happy

Plus we will all need somewhere to crash straight after the race so all back to your hotel !

Hello from the other Steve H - I am getting back into training, back from holiday so should get down club soon, I've entered the ballot for London but even if I don't get in this year my current thinking is that that is the only marathon I intend to put myself through before I retire !

Good luck to all of you though....26 miles here, 50 miles there, some odd bloke doing 145 miles - it's not natural, I'm telling you..... Laughing

JoG and I are considering the Training Day on the 5th December. Anybody else fancy joining us to get a car full?
Details below if you didn't get an email:

Date, times and venue

Sunday 17th October
Sunday 5th December
Sunday 27th February

Venue: Hilton Brighton Metropole Hotel
Time: 10am to 4pm
Cost: £20.00

Itinerary
Information on the race day and the course
Advice on how to train for a Marathon
A motivational speech from a special guest
Advice and interactive session on how to avoid injury

We will be taking you for a run along part of the Marathon course. After the run we will be giving a light lunch, so please bring a spare change of clothes and a towel, before a final round of presentations.

Saucony will be on hand with the Brighton Marathon Store (a new team for this year) providing you with an opportunity to test out your running gait and try out the latest range of Saucony shoes. Brighton Marathon Store will also have shoes, clothing, equipment for you to try on, including the exclusive Brighton Marathon Running Range; that will be launched at the first training day in October.

It is important to point out that each training day will follow a similar theme however they will reflect the stages of your preparation for the Brighton Marathon 2011. So if you fancy coming to all three training days, you will gain from all three.

Hi, know it's early to mention but I have cocked-up my hotel booking and rebooked at stupid £, so if anyone does pull out in the weeks to come and their Travelodge room is surplus to requirements please think of me as happy to buy back. I can then cancel my mega- bucks one.
THANKS.
