People formed a queue in Cluny Square in Southend on Saturday morning (13th January) in order to take part in the Cycle Lights project. The idea was the brainchild of two enterprising PCSO’s, PCSO Jackie Jones and PCSO Gary Jackets, who were shocked by the amount of young people they saw riding around the town without proper safety lights on their bikes.

Nice idea - if it gets kids using bike lights at night it's got to be good!

I wonder what sort of lights they are? I find LED ones are the most practical. Especially if you can't afford to get lights in the first place you're hardly likely to be able to afford the constant cost of replacement batteries for halogen bulbed lamps!

When I was a kid I was lucky to get the local bobbies to 'post-code' my bike (which quickly rusted the frame as the stamps they used removed the paint).

In my current cycling I am fed up looking like a Christmas tree when out at night but I can understand the need which most kids (and a lot of adults) just don't get.
