Got a lad at work signed up as well. He ran London this year at less than 24 hours notice (his first marathon) and me & Jez tried to kill him off at the Xtreme Traithlon festival earlier this year....but he keeps coming back for more.

Not quite as many BRC entries as Southend, just me, Mike J and Brett on the start line, and only one BRC supporter, Ian J, but he was being very vociferous to make up for it. Much appreciated. Dont think any of us were as pleased as we could be but we all finished and collected our medals.

Mass start this year as opposed to age group waves so got truly pummelled in the lake and had a slower swim - at least it was the same for everyone bar the pro's. Bike section was just about OK, but it's no good spending loadsa dollar on a new machine if you don't get a nice big cassette on the back to help you up those 1 in 6 hills. The run I thought was pretty good - till I saw my splits and discovered I'd run 2 mins off the pace from a couple of years ago. I could try and blame injuries, or the heat, but I'm sure I'm just slowing down in middle age. So a very small course PB but overall I slipped 30 places, 5 in my age group. Must train harder!
