Turbo Sessions

Hi, does anyone know any sessions that can be done on a turbo trainer? My boredom threshold is low and I can just about endure 30mins of constant cycling, so need something different.

I'm not training for anything specific, just returning from injury and not yet able to run, so want to get fitness up. Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Steve.

Hi Steve
I recently bought this book http://www.amazon.co.uk/Workouts-...oks&qid=1237662852&sr=1-1 It has 60 different sessions in it all of different durations and for different goals. well worth the £13. If you let me know how long the sessions are you are doing, I will scan as many as I can and email them to you. Send me a PM and I will get them to you as soon as I can.
Cheers

Some of my "favourite" (or rather, those that prevent Bordem at least!) on the ex bike we're ones such as  45x 45 secs hard 15sec easy; 30x30sec hard 30sec easy; 10sec hard10easy 20sec hard 20easy 30sec hard 30easy etc up to 60:60 then back down&repeat 2-3 times....all with 10min easy cycling each side of course Smile

Stace, I love the thought of an "ex" bike, though I'm not sure it's ex because you dumped it as soon as you got over your injury, or whether you just wore it out (see above session for details!).

Am I reading that session right.... surely it would take all day?

Haha sorry I did not make that clear - three sessions are mentioned above otherwise that would indeed take all day!

My "exercise"bike is soon to be an ex in that sense of the word - it now smells of burning rubber when you use it and the previously toughest level (which I can't move normally) spins round easily but jolts! It is 10 years old though to be fair.... compress

the only proper session i do is 10*4mins hard , 45secs rec.another is say every 5 mins or so up the effort a bit usually 5 or 10 beats more on my hrm
im on the turbo 3-4 times a week usually doing 50 mins or so.
it is very boring on its own so the key is taking your mind off it any way you can some of my methods are :
whatever you do try not to look at the time too much i find once i get through the first 30 mins or so then its easier

use an ipod i listen to podcasts on easy rides but need uplifting music for the harder rides ,im mainly into metaly stuff but find that dosent work so im often listening to dancy music

i use a hr monitor which has got a calorie counter on it so im always trying to use a certain amount depending on what training im doing.

the main thing is it really helps you get fitter , ive had years of calf problems with running but dont have any problems on the bike. since i started regularily using the turbo (june 2008) its taken pressure off my running , i got through the winter running no more than 15 miles a week yet in the little league races i improved from a previous best of 47th to 15th with no interval or fast work off the bike.
obviously not everyone can do that , i was much faster when i was younger and im still way off where i should be , but i think it can benefit anyone who is injured , recovering or needing cross training.
