The “August Seizer” Trail Race
(Held under UK Athletics rules, TRA Permit applied for)

On Sunday, August 2nd, 2009

From the White Horse Inn, Coxtie Green nr Brentwood
(Post Code: CM14 5PX, Ph: 01277 372410, Map Ref: TQ562959 or 556378E,195923N)

Distances 9.1, 4.5 or 2.3 miles (Garmin GPS measured)

Walkers, children and dogs (on leads at all times) welcome
(Min age: 13 for 2.3; 15 for 4.5; 16 for 9.1; no min age for walkers)
Cost £4 (inc £2 drink voucher, redeemable at the Bar)
Entry to the 2.3 route is free, but no Bar Voucher!
Starts: from 9:30 am

This is based on a Trail Race originally set out by the late Andy Colbert, and was instrumental in introducing many Trotters to the concept of Trail Racing. A few changes have been made to the original route, reflecting the evolution of Trail Racing over the last 10 or so years, namely:
• The Start (and finish) is at a Pub, rather than in a Country Park!,
• Private land no longer forms part of the route (to Andy, a path was a path!).

When you are running along some of the lovely footpaths making up this Trail, spare a thought for Andy, and be grateful that he did so much to promote Trails in Essex.

Well done Jez, 1st place and to Lucy in the short trail, I came 8th.
Last time I saw Lucy she had to pull out of race at Little Havens, hope it all went well this time.

Thank goodness the weather improved yesterday.
What a great turnout from all over the County.
As Paul Price TGT commented, Andy's original trail took them through 40% of Private land, which wasn't possible to cover yesterday, but hopefully the alternative routes surficed.

Tim, sorry we didn't see your request for a lift.
Gary, children should especially be on leads.

I really enjoyed my first trail race. I ran with a lady from Havering 90 and between us we managed to find our way back.

I'm sure you could accompany one of the girls round.

Paul sent me provisional results, but there are a few changes to be made.

1st recorded runner was Chris Beazeley, but he admitted not covering the full 9.1 miles, and therefore he was relegated to I don't know where, but not first.
Therefore Jez was first, Tim second and so forth.
Aparently there's a bottle of plonk for Tracey as 1st lady in the long route.
Over 20 Striders in the Long route, but not enough in the short.
I think Andy K may be regretting his choice of distance.

Cheers Andy, really enjoyed my first proper trail race. Even my little alteracation with a farmer who insisted you couldnt run on a footpath, only walk.

These trail runs are a good way of getting some off road mileage in whilst having to use the old grey matter. Good practice for the Essex way!
