Runners World Awards - UK's Best Running Club

I have just been told that following my nomination in February Benfleet Running Club has made a shortlist of just 3 to be considered for the Runners World Award of UK's Best Running Club.

I'm hugely proud - whether we win or not to make top 3 out of 1200 clubs nationwide is something we should all be really proud of.

The Award will be announced this Thursday so I'll let you all know.

WELL DONE BENFLEET - thanks for making it so easy to constantly say great things about our club.

cheers  cheers  cheers

Thats fantastic!

One of the top 3 clubs in the UK is an amazing status for BRC.
High five to all the members who make the club such a good one.
(Even though I hardly ever get down the club nights these days, I'm  proud to wear the club colours at Halstead)!

That is brilliant work, by Debbie for nominating us, and of course all the club members who work to make the club as good as it is.

On a countdown to Thursday now.....text us the results !?

Fantastic news...most of Romania will know on Friday if the news is good on Thursday......well done Debbie but it is clear that my pert buttocks played a hand in this with the judges......

Good news and bad news.....

Good news - Bobby and Debbie had a great evening (and well earned)

Bad news - Halifax Harriers won (club est. 125 years ago + 480 members)

Still a massive achievement - so well done Debbie, and well done everyone !

Yes Debbie and I had a great evening.  It was not until we got to the venue, (Imperial War Museum) that we realised the scope of the event and therefore what an achievement it was for Debbie to have got us that far.  We were going to have just one glass of champagne, but it was flowing and the food kept coming and well it just seemed rude to refuse.  Yes we were beaten by Halifax Harriers and to be fair, when we spoke to their representatives afterwards they did deserve to win, so it somewhat softened the blow to know it was well deserved.  None the less be  proud guys and girls Benfleet almost reached the recognition it deserves, but we knew that anyway didn't we.  We always knew we were the best, thanks to you lot.

Yes I can confirm what Bobby has said it was a highly professional ceremony and I wouldn't have missed it for the world.  The awards were presented by Katharine Merry and the winner of the Mentor category was Dame Kelly Holmes so you can see the quality of those who made the shortlists and the celebs we were rubbing shoulders with!  I am hoping that if I follow the Graham Booty training method - drink far too much and stay up late and get 5 hours sleep it will enhance my marathon performance!

We had a chat to the winners Halifax Harriers and they were very deserving and charming winners.  We are but infants in comparison being just 19 years old to their 125 years so again I am still in shock we made it to the top 3.

Great evening, great company (thanks Bobby), great achievement for the club.

Here is photographic evidence of how close (literally) we got to the Award

Well done girls - great show. Debs - you are just a PR & media monster, Max Clifford eat your heart out.

I was out celebrating your feat in getting us nominated last night. I am going out and celebrating again tonight - I am finding being injured isn't so bad really.......
Pammie

Well done

Deb were your ears burning today cos i can only echo what Graham said. I was raving on about the club to some friends in Hyde Park today

Clive was asking me who the other club was that made the top 3.  Steve Seaton has emailed today to say the other club was Tamar Trotters a Cornish based club that he described as being of similar size and impact on the community as our own club.

For the record there were no 2nd or 3rd places just a winner and two other clubs in a shortlist as runners up.

I have sent something to the Echo on this with a pic but as it is an award from another publication not sure if it will be printed but fingers crossed.

Jez asked me on Sunday if our strap line is now "Probably the UK's Best Running Club...well top 3....." catchy huh??
