OCTOBER 26TH 2008 XC #1OCTOBER 26TH 2008 XC #1
Please remember the first XC race is the one we host, and unless you are one of the fast boys/girls
you need to be a marshall
(or if not, have a note from your mum as to why you can't go)
|
Coach
|
Permission to run must be seeked from myself before you are allowed to compete. Sub 40 mins 10 k for the Men & sub 45 minute 10 k form for women is the guide. See me if you need to...
|
Stevie
|
That rules me out then coach as I havent done a sub 40min 10km :hmph:
|
Coach
|
You're a special case Stevie, permission granted for you to run
|
mikemoreton
|
I'm definitely out. I havent done a sub 60min 10k
|
Coach
|
So I take it your down to marshal then Mike ?
|
Ian J
|
So with my 33min PB I can run..... Oops that's a 5K PB, not a 10K PB
Back to Marshaling for me, also I may have found a homemade cake source, so I can bring cakes as well
|
Karl C
|
Clive also needs helps from 3pm on the Saturday afternoon to help mark out the course---all welcome.
|

|
Unfortunately I cant marshall as I am moving house for my In Laws.
Sorry for that. Put me down for the next one though. (guilt trip)
|
Stevie
|
Thanks Ian (I think) dont think ill be thanking you after the race as I can still remember the pain from last year
I said to clive the other night that I'm happy to help out on the Sat and Sunday before the race and then run.
I cant believe a club this size finds it difficult to find marshalls, come on guys its good fun marshalling plus you have the added bonus of not having to run
|
mike s
|
MM must be excused fom marshalling as if he is moving the inlaws he is going to be overseas somewhere far far away.
|
Mike Mason
|
Mike S- I am not excused. As a member of this great 'Caring Club - my arse' I feel a moral obligation to Marshall as I am not running. The fact that we have friends over that day and that I will have to pop out and back again is neither here nor there. We need to stand up for our Club and be proud.....segue into stirring Bluto Blutowski speech....'was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbour?'

exactly
i said last year (season) about how bad the marshalling was. there are plenty of members but its always the same ones who turn up for this sort of event. if they cant make it then it leaves us short.
although i fit the qualifying criteria ive been hunting unsuccesfully for months trying to sort out a babysitter so that my wife could marshall in my place. as we couldnt find one my wife will be bringing my son along. do they do a marshalls vest in 1 year old size ?
if you cant be bothered to marshall , ask yourself who marshalls the races you want to do ??
btw
theres a training run on the course tomorrow , meet at john burrows @9:30

Missed club this week so probably missed all the important bits!
cheers

I think groups were going out to Marshal points from about 9:30 onwards.
Until somebody who knows more comes along, I would say arrive at chapel lane car park around 9:00, stroll down the path to the main field and hope somebody knows whats going on

To Whom It May Concern
Stephen cannot do marshalling on Sunday as he has got to come down to our house and help celebrate his sister's 40th birthday.

To Whom It May Concern
Karl cannot do marshalling on Sunday as he has got to go to Chelmsford for his Level 2 Athletic Coach exam, and he is not worried at all about it
(arghhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
He will be there Saturday afternoon to help set-up the field and eat cakes.
Yours faithfully

still no details coming from anyone .......... im asuming my wife has been put down for marshalling ?? luckily im running so i dont have to worry but it would have been nice if some details could have been put up for those who dont go down the club.especially as she keeps asking if i know whats going on.
anyway lee which hill are you standing on ? there are 6. my wife will probably be taking pics aswell so if you see a woman with a pram taking pics you know its her.

Clive had the map on Thursday, but it is A3 so he is struggling to get it onto the web.
Meet at Chapel Lane carpark from 9am, when you will be told where to put the cakes you are all bringing, and then taken off onto the course by your Leaders.

Will be on Hill near Station....
|

Dave, Clive had all the details at the club last week, if you needed details asap I suggest you give him a call as im sure he doesnt spend much time on the forum as he is busy organising events such as the X-country.
We will be meeting early tomorrow morning (8am at Chapel Lane), but if you and your wife pop over before 9:30am im sure we can show her where to go.
Have a good run.

Seems despite my lack of sub 45min 10K time in the last 5 years without a bike or swim I am expected to run.
Which brings me to - do any marshalls need extra company???? Like by a small, invariably muddy, extremely friendly (unless you're a male dog) black spaniel. Otherwise hes condemned to half an hour in the car boot.
Loves people and nice children. Prefers to run but unfortunately is unable to.

Mike Mason
|
Lucy, I will look after him if you like I am not bringing my manly Yorkie....
|
Lucycat
|
That would be great MM1. We will be there from about 9.30 if not earlier as Jez is doing a pre-race lap! Paddy isnt that manly either - bit of a softie really unless your the male shepard that lives over the road or the basset two doors up or the cavalier on the corner or even the thankfully fairly dopey and old rotty in the park last week.
|
Mike Mason
|
Lucy, look forward to seeing you then....

big thanks for all those who marshalled today in not the best conditions. my only criticism is some were a bit quiet and not cheering us on (as i stupidly pointed out with my footballers gesture to the crowd on the overlapping bit , i blame the adrenaline )
only sour note is my wife and i cleared up about 20+ plastic cups that runners had just left lying around , there were about 5 in the area where all the benfleet runners had left their kit. id have thought that people doing these sort of events would have more respect for the environment ?
oh and the link to Clives email on this page http://www.benfleetrunningclub.com/xc.htm was wrong so he never got mine or some others emails so not suprised i didnt get a response.
|
Karl C
|
yes, hands up the email link was incorrect. sorry.
Well done to all who marshalled and run us to a win.
|
Mike Mason
|
yes well done all. It was a pleasure to stand in the rain and watch your smiling faces go past. And the tea and cake at the end was great.....thoroughly enjoyed the event!

Best bit of bread pudding I've had for a long while!
Well done all

Well Done all, got my pics and all sent to Karl..

All the great pictures from Lee and Ian are not up. Thanks guys.
David, we will be DNA checking the 5 plastic cups to find out the club members responsible, don't worry.

What a great bunch of Marshalls at the race. I have been to many races in my time and seen many different degrees of Marshalling skills. But this was simply the best. If there was a Championship league of Marshalls they would be the winners - like the Benfleet Ladies.
One in particular I noted. Wooly hat, glasses and the boyish charm of a young Brad Pitt. He was a credit to your Club.....

I saw that guy, but it wasn't a Benfleet Running Club wooly hat, so not sure if he was a member.....

|
Mike Mason

yes Karl I want a BRC wooly hat....I am sure every member without one would also love one.....

well done to all , i think i was 9th benfleet bloke and came in 22nd and a few more were just behind me. add to that you only need 7 to score i think the blokes finally rivaled the ladies.
now we just need to stay fit and the titles ours ..........................
great pics lee and ian , many thanks

Oh there were other clubs running then....?
The pictures were just a parade of Benfleet vests !
Well done all....should I admit to having to suppress a chuckle at the prospect of running or marshalling the event as my windscreen wipers clattered at top speed down bread and cheese hill on my way to sunny Sussex ??
The pictures at the top of the hill looked down at my marshalling position from last year....that person, even given reasonable grip on shoes, will have got back some 30/40 mins later having almost fallen over a dozen times, probably lucky to escape with minor groin strain, and resembling a drowned rat.

Well done all Benfleet runners you done yourself and the club proud. As a marshall on the day, what an awesome show of strength seeing as only the selected few represented us, what can we achieve with a few more backing the club at the next race.
An excellent turn out right across the board, lets hope we can keep this superb initial result going and win the next event too. After last years results for the men lets prove what Benfleet can do, as for the ladies, you are the best.
We are the club to beat.
