questions for MM...........OR KARLMike , as you know the day or days of reckoning are fast approaching !
ive got 35 bloody pages of A 4 route map to carry ! what do you do , i assume you carry them in plastic !

Runningman, assuming the maps are supplied I would try to store the bulk of them in a large A4 Snap Seal plastic bag/bags inside your pack and only carry a few (folded) relevant maps in a "A5" map holder to either be held or hanged around your neck. Just carry enough maps in the A5 holder to last a few hours and then replace during stops.
Good Luck.

Runningman, what I do is have them laminated. Probably back to back so 2 map areas on one sheet. And then hole punch with some string through so you can turn them over easily and not lose them. However, as you have so many and of that size I would probably arrange with support crew at different checkpoints to hand you the next few sections ie, carry just 1-2 sections.....(For the Mont Blanc Ultra the map numbers are about same but smaller than A4 and I carry the section to main checkpoint).
Make sure the section pages are numbered and that your support crew have full sets also. If you have any planned meeting points outside of the official checkpoints (I don't know how your race is organised) but you may have the odd hotel/B&B/sauna/jacuzzi/tanning room etc....sorry but I couldn't resist then mark those on the maps as well.
Laminating is best because everytime you take paper maps out out of plastic covers it will always be raining...Mason's Law of Running #234. Remember where Ernie comes from it never rains. The concern there is being attacked by Dingoes or rabid possums who will chew unlaminated paper......

Gary, I can laminate stuff if needed.
I have printed a copy of the route in booklet style, if that helps to stop all the pages flying across the countryside.
Do you really need to carry all the maps...?
Will Rory store maps/stuff at the checkpoints for you?
Are you going to carry the mini-bar, or leave it in the hotel ?
What about dressing gowns/towels/shampoo/showel gel satchets ?

Karl, I feel sorry for poor Runningman having to put up with these digs. You won't catch me doing it again. Still he is probably out training now and can catch up on his rest later.....at the hotel stop....damn.......

Yes, I am sorry Mike.
It is bad enough he is having to run 200 miles, but to carry all those little bars of complementary soap is another thing altogether.

Jez, Is that the same pedicurist that did your feet? The word Pikey springs to mind. Ha ha. no hold over me now on the marathon training. :p
Gary, dont listen to these guys, they are winding you up. I know you wont be stopping in this luxury overnight. You told me on the Ultra Run that you would just 'kip on the side of the road'. I believed you!!
I shall be crossing Gary off my 'hero' list.
