My view is anyone can run a marathon, but it takes some quite a bit of physical and mental strength to run a marathon 'fast'. That is to the limit of that person's endurance, speed and fitness.
Personally, I just can't get worked up about tri's. To me it's just a swim, then a bike ride and then a run. I don't see it as a whole. There again, I'm a bit pants at them as my swim isn't that good. Good for cross training and recovery from injury though.
Extreme??? Pah!! Try this...
