Map my run ?Hi.
You have this on the home page,
Club long runs have now been officially mapped, and given a # number. Check the full list here
http://www.mapmyrun.com/user/228237082/Benfleet_RC
but there doesnt seem to be a list. (the page is blank).
I was hoping once the list is up i can save the courses down to my garmin. (not sure if it works but have read i can save files as a crs file so wanted to give it a go).
In actual fact i dont seem to be able to find any of the runs with a map my run link! I am sure most of them had them.

Disgracefull
Johnnyboy posting on a Training night. What an excuse not to go running. Next thing we know it will be the burial of a family goldfish.

The rumour is that jonnyboy spent all tuesday downloading routes onto his garmin, under the impression that the watch will do the runs for him and then come back and tell him the route; which he plans to do as a virtual run from the comfort of his chair.
Alternativly he may be taking the training plan he got from Jez too casually. Just doing the rest days and missing the other ones, whatever they are.

Oops, got caught out there by Mr Moreton, mmm, may have to be careful in the future when I post.
Yes Michael, the virtual run was great, I feel better then ever lol.
Watch out lads, every dog has his day!

If you manage to download the route to your Garmin, you will have to show me how to do it. I've tried downloading waypoints and followed the route but it hasn't worked for me.
Also I would have to program in all the shortcuts I take :blackeye:

Hi Ian.
Yes, I have managed with no help from the limited supplied docs.
Very simple really so for the benefit of you and others here's a brief tutorial on
loading a mapmyrun course, firstly into your Garmin Training Center, then your 305...
(405 is pretty similar except the transfer to device is not via USB I assume...)
Note: This short tutorial assumes that you have installed your Training Center software and device driver, and you got the ok message.
Ok, click on the links in the above post to the runs, (or use the link on the home page)
Click on the run you require to open it in mapmyrun,
or in mapmyrun, create your own. (very handy!)
Now at the top of the map, (in mapmyrun), you will see a drop down menu, with save, Log Workout etc..
Mouseover 'save', then click 'save to Garmin / CRS'. Nothing happened eh !
Look to the left of the map, under the advert, an 'Exporting your Route' menu has appeared!
Click on 'Garmin Course File (CRS/TCX)'.
In the new menu that appears, select your miles per minute or speed.
Click on the drop down box and select CRS (stands for courses I guess!).
Click 'Download Course File'. (this can take a while).
When the popup window opens 'click save file'.
Your file will be saved to your pcs default location, or the location that you may of specified before.
Close (or minimize) mapmyrun.
Open Garmin Training Centre
Click the tab top left that says 'Courses'.
Now go 'File' 'Import Courses'.
Browse to where the course file is located, and click on it to load it into your software.
(In the option 'file type' at the bottom of the window it should say Garmin Course File (*.crs) ).
A folder appears in the left window, within the 'Courses' folder called 'mapmyfitness'. Click on this and all your courses from mapmyrun will be there.
Ok, if you loaded 'BadgerRun' or whatever, click on it.
Click on the 'maps' tab on the main window and a basic map of the run should appear. 'Totals' tab shows distance, pace, etc and 'notes' is handy for
writing notes about the course. (See below). You can copy/paste name of run, from the previous pages to here for future refence.
Plug in your Garmin via the USB cradle. Hopefully it all connects correctly.
Once its all up and running, in TC (Training Center), at top left menu click 'File' then 'Send to Device'.
It should now be sent to your Garmin. (I did this ok the first time i tried it, but while writing this i had an error communicating with device message!)
Good luck!!
Now, on your Garmin, navigate thru by pressing, Mode, Training, Courses, and then Enter the course you require, (if they have appeared ok!)
Click the required option, do course, edit, or delete. (At this stage I havn't actually tried 'do course' so not sure how great they are. See post above from Mike H !!)
Note: You will find as you add more courses that the file names have become truncated on your Garmins screen and as such are not very informative in your menu
list. So, in the TC software when you click on the file name of your run in the courses window, right click with your mouse, then you can rename your course to a shorter name
ie. Run1, Run2, Then in your 'notes' in the TC software just list them out, Run1 = badger run, Run2 = vic hse run etc.
Anyhow, hope this hasnt bored you all too much and has taught you a bit of how to use the courses feature,
and hope you have as much fun as i have writing it !
(Workouts can be imported in to the TC software and sent to device in a similar way and can be downloaded from runnersworld as well as other sites)
If anyone uses this and has success or otherwise, let us know how ya got on..

Can we change the Thread title to 'Map my Arse!' Which as you know for me would be a considerably small map, albeit pert and round.....

Ha Ha, when you join the upper ranks lads you will appreciate that post.
(Mike H. You may turn up for club nights cos their midweek, but the weekend runs you never make. Are you allowed out at weekends??)
