Leigh-on-Sea Striders 10k : 27th September 2009

The first ever Leigh-on-Sea Striders 10k is open to all club, fun and charity runners aged 16 and over. The undulating course takes runners out from the area of Leigh Marshes and Two Tree Island nature reserve before climbing up to and along Marine Parade where runners and spectators will be able to enjoy the spectacular view out across the Thames Estuary and into Kent. The race then progresses through Leigh and Chalkwell before returning along the costal towpath and the cobbled streets at the heart of old Leigh itself. The final push for the finish guides runners past the famous Cockle Sheds and back towards Leigh Marshes where runners can collect their medals and enjoy a free post run massage.

Entry opens 1st July 2009.

THIS RACE IS NOW FULL, so there will be NO ENTRIES ON THE DAY
Steffan

Anyone got a spare number?!
Why oh why do I keep leaving things untill the last minute?!!
Co-Skipper

After Steffan, I would also be delighted if a spare number revealed itself.

Well done everyone who ran today. Great new race (and in my opinion better than S'end 10k, but then I have run that for too many years to remember!)

Julia P was 1st Lady, and Graham B was 2nd Gent.

Well done all !!
Co-Skipper

Well done Julia.  And well done Graham.  I sit at my desk on a Monday morning, sensing that any faint hope of the Club Champs has been slashed to zero.  Mr Booty has laid down the gauntlet!

You never know, he might have tired himself out...???

(nope, don't buy that one either)
Graham

Hey Kieran - I didn't run that well, thankfully there was not much competition out there. If I'd have known there was no trophy for second I might have chased Paul Dobson a bit harder, but with the 1-2-3 all split by a reasonable gap and thinking I'd get a little trinket there wasn't much of an incentive to really dig in over the final k's.

I should have know as the same thing happened at Mersea 5, came in third but they only awared trophies to the top 2. Must run faster I guess!

Whingeing aside it was a lovely day, usual vociferous support from Brian, Bobby, Stef, Ken and others (appreciated as ever), great encouraging marshals (some were quite fit too - watch out Benfleet, might lose the unofficial Best Marshall status for the 15!!) and even a few crowds scattered around for the 9:30 Sunday start. Few hills, but only the first half - as Julia noted just like the TGT 10k in reverse. All in all thoroughly recommend.

I have sent a press report in to the Echo on this which will appear Friday.  The Echo had their own photograher there and there will be a photo of Julia.  You get a good mention Graham.

And don't be too down about the lack of trophy imagine how it was for me - travel over 250 miles run my socks off in a marathon finish 3rd and what do I get? - a toaster!!

You still got the best trophy ever for winning the Oner - the gold trainer!  compress
