Hever Castle Triathlon - 27th SeptemberHever Castle Triathlon27th september 2009 
http://www.hevercastle.co.uk/What...true/ParentId/76/Default.aspx[/b] The Openwater swim will be in the spectacular 38 acre Hever Castle Lake The cycle will take place around a 20K circuit through the High Weald of Kent an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty The run will circumnavigate the estate and award winning castle and gardens. THE RACE NAMES AND DISTANCES: THE HENRY VIII: 800m open water swim , 40km bike, 8k run THE ANNE BOLEYN: 400m open water swim, 20k bike and 4k run Costs : £60 (£55 for BTA members) for the Henry VIII £40 (£37 for BTA members) for the Anne Boleyn races. There is also a team entry category (ie. 1 person swims, another bikes and another runs) in both races charged at £75 (ie £25 per person). |

Hello from Thailand........hot hot hot and too much food - some running - but probably not enough!!!
Anyway - wasn't there a previous post on this one? I've entered, but the girlie Anne B distance - 3 weeks on hols - not really suitable training for the big distance - think Kirste may have entered this one too Planning family picnic though so will be there all day so can cheer on you full distance people |

Race update from the girlie Anne B distance...
I arrived at 7am to a thick mist covering and all the grass was wet from the dew - so walking from the car to the start area with flipflops on was not a good idea and my feet were freezing. Went to check out the lake - could only just make out the orange buoys that we were to swim round. The swim exit was a very steep run up a grassy bank - nice little hill session - and then across STONES to get to my bike - my poor feet! By now, completely cold - even sat in the portaloo for longer than necessary because it was warmer!!! Anyway - wetsuit on, second time of trying - was trying to put on over my shorts - clearly had a very cold non-functioning brain at this point - a painful walk over the stones to get to the swim start. Henry VIII and Anne B were there to see us off and the start signal was a cannon - swim OK, plenty of room so no real fighting going on - water actually warmer than expected but very weedy, so zero visability, what with the fog too. Cycle - awful - first 2k uphill and then seriously up and down - not sure there were any flat bits - all in the shade of trees (great for the later cyclists) but for me, just never managed to get my fingers or toes warm - and those hills, I lost count of the number of people going past me - am definitely expecting a very slow time. Glad I didn't do the full distance - twice round the route would have been awful - might still be there now! But the run was fabulous - all offroad and through the grounds of the castle - some sunshine and I managed to pass a couple of other runners - so overall - would do again - maybe should have put on an extra layer and need to work on those hills. And a great goody bag - suncream and lipgloss (not sure what was in the men's one - maybe the same)! Treated myself to coffee and sausage roll and then managed to see Jez - who was near the front and Mike, Sharon and Caroline on their runs - sorry Ian - I did look out for you on the bike, but must have just missed you - hope you all had a great event too |

Well done all those that finished both distances yesterday.For a large inaugural triathlon this one was pretty well organised.I thought I had allowed enough time to get to the race start with an hour to spare but the road into the parking was a one way and was a bit of a traffic jam! There seemed to be a little confusion with the registration, luckily for Sharon and myself, Mikey pointed us in the right direction and after registering it left me 15 mins to rack my bike, get wetsuit on, sort my kit out and get to the start line. That was my warm up done!
The grounds are stunning and the swim in the lake was pleasant (luckily the mist lifted).As Toni said the bike was a toughie, hilly, technical and with no opportunity to settle for too long, but on relatively quiet roads.The run was all off road and again very scenic. All in all a good race ,enjoyed it and provisional results had me in 12 th place. Sharon G finished strongly and eventually said she'd enjoyed it!
