Our marshals are total diamonds, great support today, loads of encouragement and abuse about running faster!
Thankyou all!

Had a really crap run because of not being well for the previous two days but our marshalls lifted me (not literally) and kept me going. Big thanks to all our marshals.

Also must thank the organisng team for putting on another great XC, especially when a number of our experienced organisers were off having a good time in North Wales.

Congratulations to my marshaling team, and all the other marshals who gathered on the corner of the gravel path to shout the runners in.

They were making so much noise some of the runners coming down to me thought they were running into the finish.

Shame they still had half a mile ( up hill ) to go !!!

Was really proud of you all, you just don't get that kind of unbridled enthusiasm at other cross country’s.

Excellent stuff
Graham

Aye. Thanks to all the marshalls. Apologies for my lack of appreciation on my way round but I was struggling yesterday for all the wrong reasons.

Well done to the girls. Yet again carrying the team. Come on boys, we've really got to pull our finger out. WHU's chairman has just sacked Pardew coz of poor results, Dessie must be getting nervous......

Hadleigh Xc was my first ever go at being a Marshal, I was at the Top of The Hill shouting out Encouragment to All runners and I must admit I throughly enjoyed it.

The organisation was First Class (Like The Cakes) and We should all be proud of ourselves...

So Roll On Benfleet 15.....

Graham

It's OK. Clive has just issued a vote of confidence.

one question

how comes nick wetheridge was down for east essex tri when he was wearing a basildon top , there was someone , not nick, in the last race wearing one too.
i know basildon arent in this league but i think i read you had to wear your clubs top to score ????

Dog bites man at Benfleet

Yes, can you believe I got bitten by a dog - a four-legged one too! I then started off too far down the pack and queued for half-an-hour on the staircase hills at the beginning of the course. I should have known better having run the course the week before. I blame Dessie for not running with me at the start - even though he did cheer me on at the end - well done, Steve! It was my worst run ever and my lowest cross country finish. So if Dessie goes, I'm going too. I was once as quick as Mattie Etherington; now he's rubbish too. Godfrey.

PS Thanks to everybody on the day. You were all great, especially Kirste!
Lee O

Yes Well I did wonder why you was So Far back in the Field!!! did not think you was Running Smile

After our ziz zag session last night, I spoke to Clive the chairman as i have been worried about the adverse effect my captaincy has had on the X-C team and indeed to some extent the club. Thankfully Clive has assured me that he has full confidence in my ability to take the mens team onto the next level & has offered me a extension to my contract if results as expected improve. So naturally I was feeling rather relieved walking out the club last night & because of all the gossip & remarks I have heard recently I was beginning to get rather paranoid.
When walking down the steps outside I bumped into Lynne so i said good night as u do when she said and i quote
" Good night Dessie, you had better get your a**e into gear quickly cos if performances don't improve quickly your fired ! Have a safe drive home ".
GULP !
david thomson

well youve got my vote steve , ive improved 30 places since youve been captain Laughing
spokey42

Steve. A vote of confidence from the Chairman is always re-assuring. In recent months, Alan Pardew, Graeme Souness and Bryan Robson have all received one too. So obviously your job is safe. I just want to reassure you that all the male runners in the club are firmly behind you too. We understand the recent dip in form, but realise that the likes of Graham Booty, Steve Drummond, yourself and Ian are just not running too well at the moment. I'd blame the coach, mate; nothing wrong with you!
Graham

Sir Godfrey, positively slanderous posting old chap. Just been analysing the results to see where we’re going wrong. I took 1 min 45 sec off of last years time and fell 2 places. Steve Drummond improved by exactly the same margin and fell 3 places! Ian improved by 34 seconds and fell a whopping 16 places. Tony Mead, 2 min 16 sec gain and dropped 6 places. Jez and his tired legs only dropped 25 seconds yet that cost him 15 places. A worrying trend indeed.

Perhaps we should look elsewhere for the solution. Drug testing for Billericay and Thrift Green….on second thoughts that might back fire on me. How about a more aggressive recruiting policy, surely we can get some more ringers. Maybe skimpier outfits for our fantastic girls team to tease some of the elite runners from the other clubs over? There must be some mileage there. We could adopt the beach volleyball policy of having maximum clothing restrictions for female members on race days. We’ll put it to a vote next club night. Men only of course……

Graham

Wouldn't put to much credence on the improved times, as the overnight frost made the course unusually fast this year. I was in the fortunate position to see the runners through 3 times on the course, and can confirm that you at least looked like you were putting some effort in. Although the rest of the men were well bunched, think this was more so they could have a chat on the way round, rather than an un-canny similarity in their race pace !!!

Next time the fast group jog past me on a training night, think I'll give them some abuse
( for a change !! )

Out of interest how inspiring was Mr Dessie's team talk before the race ?

Concerned of GORC
david thomson

didnt inspire me at all Laughing warmed up on my own .

hopefully ill be up with the scorers next year but i think we might need to get the marshalls to send the thrift green and billericay runners the wrong way. or stop the disgracefull tactics of a marshall warning everyone of the impending sharp bend on the short downhill Laughing

completely forgot did anyone else have problems whith the jogger on the course ?(at the top of the narow hill) he was running the other way and i had to run on the path to avoid him , he didnt even bother to stop or make way.

Alan Curbishley has been unveiled as the new manager of West Ham.
Chairman Eggert Magnusson moved quickly to appoint the former Charlton manager after sacking Alan Pardew on Monday.

"I am absolutely delighted that Alan has agreed to join us," said Magnusson. "He's a manager with a proven track record and a real love for the club. I understand outgoing ex-West Ham manager Alan Padrew is being secretly lined-up for the very near future vacant position of club captain at a local running Club, and we wish him well in this near venture."
