Can I go just to eat the hot food?
Too far for me atm Karl, maybe my year will be 2009 for another marathon?
want to get quicker over the shorter distances first, then build up the mileage?
More sensible approach than never running anywhere in august 2006 to running a marathon in april 2007. (Thanks Jez)

I think Ill do this. Always good to kick off the year with a marathon. Specially doing no training for it. Anyone fancy joining me for 10-15 and then dog sitting. Paddy decided full marathons were not for him in July.

If I sat on Paddy, I don't think he would recover

Lucy is still crock, so it's just us 5.

Good luck the Benfleet 5 !
I'll hopefully quite happily pop out and do a marathon every other week like you Karl, but in the meantime I'll be doing your regular sunday run at 8am, John might be doing it too. 10 mile version I think. Wearing of tights is optional.

Nice run with Dean this morning, if a bit windy and he was just cruising !
Looking out for these marathon finishers to post their times later....

Well, I must say that was the worst, hardest (27 miles!) marathon I have ever done. They say add a hour and half onto your normal marathon time, and boy were they right !!
Graeme did a marvelous job in reading the written instructions to get us round in one piece.
Extremly windy, muddy, wet, ploughed fields, ankle deep water - the works !
Andy Frith 5:59
Godfrey 15 miles - knee injury
Big Phil 5:59
Karl 5:59
Graeme Moore 5:59
Great now it is over !

Yeah, I will second that Karl. The Hardest run Ive ever done.
Thanks to all four of you for making it an enjoyable day (in a demented kind of way).
Cheers

Good stuff everyone...

| Quote: | The Striders held the bi-annual Cold Christmas to Good Easter marathon on Sunday with an entry of over one hundred runners. Organiser Pete Tremain had changed the course to include some hillier terrain, but this also entailed traversing several ploughed fields which after the recent heavy rain really tested the competitors.
As usual the race attracted a high quality field with national long distance trail champion Allen Smalls of Colchester Harriers among the favourites. However, Greg Deacon who usually features for the Striders over the fells, turned in an awesome performance to win in 3.30, six minutes ahead of Smalls and team mate Shaun Ketteridge.
Other Striders to feature in the prizes were Andy Mason, Lucy Westcott and Janet Hill.
The 26 mile race is not only a major undertaking for the runners but is a huge task for the checkpoint marshals and helpers. Probably the hardest workers of the day though were the catering team led by Theresa Tremain who provided a hot meal for all the finishers and helpers. The Tremain family also provided the head waiter in son David. |
