Chelmsford Race for Business 5k 10th June

Anyone else doing this race ?

Bit too short for me normally, but like to keep the rest of the youngsters from my Company in their place by beating them all (hopefully)

Times to beat from last year...

00:20:08 Steve Dear (BAE Systems )
00:20:59 Jacqui Watson (Chelmer Valley High School)
00:23:09 Steve Higgins (Farr)
00:23:10 Karl Cadman (Ilford Engineering)
Stevie

I'll be there again as always flower
JBD

I am entered !

I took over 5 minutes off my 2007 time last year so I'll be looking to do the same again this year......ahem, ha ha, if only.....!

I intend to go off stupidly fast and hurt really badly up the hill at about 1.3 miles, wheezing my way to the finish and vowing never to try and run fast again.

Don't try and talk me out of it.........!?!?! geek
Stevie

Thats what i'll be doing Steve, works for me  flower
Will be nice to be back racing again after such a long break.

I'm sitting at my desk at work at the mo in a bright yellow vest - lol
Good luck guys, will hopefully see you at the finish
JBD

Well, what a fantastic prediction i made.

I went off fastish, first mile in 6.48 but actually felt comfortable.
kept it going ish, second mile in 7.04 and started wheezing
then felt like death for the last mile and a quarter at 7.31 pace !

Overall same time as last year pending chip timing. Bit disappointing but I need to do some more tempo runs which I haven't done lately, think that is the key to sustaining pace.

Don't know how it went for Stevie, but Richard Nation was there and did something like 21.46 - well done mate, he was only about 100 yards ahead of me at 2 miles so he picked up whilst i was suffering !

Karl almost caught me, good run in around 23.17 but more importantly beating all his work colleagues i think....well done mate !

Good, well I'm on holiday for about 10 days and will try and fit in some tempo runs to make up for missing track sessions and efforts.
cheers
Pammie

Well done JBD good one 5kms hurt don't they cheese  well done to Karl as well beating workmates is always good

Enjoy your holiday, any more 5ks planned

Yep, great race, and yes 5k's do hurt !

Saw Steve at the start, and for some of the course.
Intent on beating my work team-mates (which I did) and only 7 seconds slower than last year. 23:17 on my watch, hope the chip time nicks a few vital seconds off the time aswell.
Stevie

Well done Guys, great race.

I had a good run, not as fast as last year but I was happy with how I felt on the way round, finished in around 20 mins 50secs (not too sure), not bad with only 8 weeks training since Jan.

Went off at lightening pace 5 min/mile pace then thought WHAT AM I DOING so ended up running most of it around 6 - 6.30 min/mile pace but struggled towards the end, still happy with performance and managed to raise some money for the charity aswell  cheers

Will no doubt be there next year to get that golden sub 20 min time  compress
Karl C

Well done Steve.

Looking back at my watch times :

00:23:17 (10th Jun 2009),
00:23:15 (11th Jun 2008),
00:23:16 (27th Jun 2007)

Scary or what ?
Don't know what it means though !

It means you are getting quicker in real terms with advancing years Karl!  Take it from someone who knows!

Well done to you all.  I wasn't sure that Jac was running as she told me last week she wasn't doing it and she was running in the fast group at the Good the Bad and the Ugly on Tuesday.  So if it was you Jac hope you had fun and enjoyed the scenery of Chelmsford!!   cyclops
