Cambridge Tri (Olympic) 10th AugustWhilst a few peeps swam, biked and ran a posh tri in London (covered transition indeed!), Lorna and myself had a crack at the Cambridge tri. Matt Pickett told me last year that it was an excellent event and he wasn't wrong. The lake was well marked out and clear, decent transition area, both bike and run are fast and flat.
Although the bike wasn't quite that fast because of the wind. With no shelter, going headlong straight into the wind felt like climbing up the hills on the Half Ironman in Exmoor.
Swim went OK, started easy and then just tried to keep form all the way through. Bike was very tough due to the wind. Just couldn't get a decent rhythm going. The run I had difficulty with. My back was playing up for the first couple of miles, and once it eased, the pace still didn't flow along.
Only saw Lorna once, on the run. And she was flying. In that wind, with some wings, maybe literally.....
2:38 for Lorna, 2:42 for me. If I trained a little more for this tri lark, sub 2:30 can be achieved.
Maybe next year if the choice came down to doing London or Cambridge, I think I'll head north rather than west.

Hi Mark
Here are your & Lorna's splits from Cambridge
Remember to click on the picture after it's been enlarged to get the original definition
If its any consolation, the London bike leg was also head on into the wind at times !!!
And got pretty windy running round the Dock
Next year, everyone in the London mixed Olympic for the club championships.
Had 9 competitors this year ... should be able to get well into double figures if everyone showed
