Hi Mike
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the Essex Way Relay is on the 7th Sept. The charity swim is on the 27th Sept, so it appears you may well be able to make it after all.
Best get down the pool mate.
Cheers
Andy

Calling all Ironmen ... and ladiesI saw that too - mentioned beach BBQ afterwards.
Quite fancy it myself - anyone else?

3K is too far for me, in September as well, I could tuck in to the BBQ though

Ian dont be put off. If they run it right on the tide (which I suspect they will) this will seem like 2K as the tide runs at a hell of a rate west east. I have practically done it kicking on my back (I get seasick and tossed around in a floaty wetsuit on a choppy day).
Im about to start canvasing for entrants!

Heres the response I got from the organisers
Hi Lucy,
Thanks for your enquiry into the Great Pier Swim.
The swim will be going from Jubilee Beach in Southend to Thorpe Bay Beach. You will be entering the water 30 mins before high tide, so you will not be fighting a strong current as you make your way to Thorpe Bay.
It sounds like you have quite abit of experience with open water swimming especially in these waters. This will be a great way to raise money for Havens Hospices while doing something, that by the sounds of it you love doing.
You can either enter online at www.havenshospices.org.uk or you can send me your address and I will send you out some entry forms.
Many Thanks
