Mike Mason

woohoo I am re-ironing last years untouched number....
Jez

This is going to be seriously muddy now. Ran the downs bit to leigh Station last Sunday and it was bad! It will be really treacherous! Excellent sorts the men from the boys.............. And the ladies from the girls!
debbie g

Oh goodie - should be some excellent quotes from the winners!  Pity the Echo can't print the expletives!
Andy F

I can confirm that Jez, I ran/swam the course with Graeme Moore this morning and the Downs are quite badly flooded. The hill and top section before the station is unbelievably slippery, you will need something with plenty of grip on your feet.
I am unfortunatley working all weekend, so will not be able to be out there to support all those racing.
So good luck to you all, and to those Marshalling.
Your going to need it.
Cheers
Andy
Mike Mason

unfortunately I have been exiled to Romania for 6 months and will be flying over the course as the race starts. Hope that the weather is really really horrible....  compress

The good news, for me at least, is that I will be back soon. It did seem like a drastic action to not have to watch Spurs playing regularly...but there you go.

All the best to you all....

Mike
Tony Mead

The wind looks like a southwesterly on Sunday so if I'm right it should push us a long on the way back from Leigh. Good O.
debbie g

Aren't you running westerly on the way back surely?

I'm not sure you'll find the wind helpful from that direction, I'd make the most of it on the way out.
Jez

MM1

Does this mean you will be adding another pristine Benfleet 15 number to your collection?

Are you just going to keep entering until you get a number you like?

Enjoy/endure Romania!
Tony Mead

Yes i got that wrong. My only hope dashed thanks Debbie.
Now ill never keep up with jez. I'm not looking forward to this at all
Mike Mason

thanks Jez. Yes 2 races completed and 2 ironed and pressed numbers in my drawer thanks to a holiday and an exiling clash..take care. MM1
debbie g

Ah don't despair Tony you'll be fine my forecast says the wind is predominantly southerly at worst SSW - so still more southerly than west so it won't be right in the face on any long stretches.  It will be a bit strong early on but is easing through the morning so I think it's been worse at other times when you've run the Benfleet 15.  Am I cheering you up yet?  Honestly I think you'll do well on this we have a great Benfleet mens team running with you Jez and Graham - go for it - team prize is up for grabs guys!

Good luck Tony I'll be waiting at the finish for a classic quote  compress
debbie g

It will be raining the entire duration of the race though...

but I'm sure that won't bother you tough guys  bounce

Us marshals will probably be moaning more !!

and the forecast could always change...
JBD

It is grim out there....with my own training run scuppered fttb, and no prospect of tennis, sorely tempted to see the sights of mud covered runners at the other end of the downs at around 10/11 miles....!

Good luck to all the runners and the marshalls !
Jez

Well done to all the guys and girls who ran today, excellent race!

Special thanks to all the marshalls for all the encouragement along the route and everyone at Benfleet for a problem free race.  cheers
Lee O

Well done to all who ran and Marshalled.

Superb run by Jez to finish 2nd.

Well done Bob who ran Marshalls race yesterday and Swept today..

and finally What FINE WEATHER we had...
bobby

Benfleet 15

Well done to all who ran todays  race in rotten conditions.  We had lots of comments from runners as they came through the finish line on the quality of the organisation and the helpfulness and encouragement of the marshalling.  Well done to all of you. It wasn't fun out there but it makes you proud to be Benfleet.
debbie g

I would also like to add well done and thanks to Terry and Karl - can't believe any other club would get the results out that quickly on the website and I've emailed the full report to the Echo by 5.15 pm!  What a team we are!

Thanks to the winning teams both men and ladies for posing for photos for me and I even got printable quotes from both Jez and Lucy!!  - hope they print them!

WELL DONE BENFLEET, brilliant results in the race and excellent marshalling and organisation as ever  bounce
debbie g

Oh yes full spread and full results with pics will be in the Echo Tuesday.
Lucycat

Deb - what did I say!  I do remember finishing feeling absolutely ****ed  and pretty much saying so which wont make the greatest quote!

Happy days in the mancer house!!!! Champers is a great recovery drink for a girl with expensive tastes.
debbie g

Ah ah Lucy I just stand around earwigging things you say to each other and grab the best quote!  It wasn't much you were just decribing the course and so was Gail - I put both in anyway.  Jez made a throw away remark I latched onto as well.  I certainly wasn't printing what Graham said as he came through the finish line!!!

Enjoy the champers both of you, well done you were both truly awesome  compress
debbie g

Tony would you like a copy of the pic I took?  If so send me a PM with your email address and I'll email it on.  Came out well.
Tony Mead

Didn't we all do well thanks everyone involved great job.
No idea what a pm is Debbie but i would like a copy of the photo.
debbie g

Click on my name and send me a Personal Message with your email address Tony.
debbie g

At the bottom of this post you'll see pm click on that it'll get a message direct to me.
mikemoreton

Well done to all.

Congrats to te Mancers too

Can you save me te paper

guess i need a new keyboard ere in Andorra.

Regards

MM2
debbie g

It's sent to you Tony  compress

Do you want me to pick you up an Echo Mike?  I'm hoping they'll print my team photos too but they had their own photographer so I think they'll just use those.
debbie g

You can just say yes Mike you won't have to type an "h" then!
boabmac1

Thanks for the opportunity of running sweeper.  It was great to be last with a licence. But I did get tired of people telling me 'well done, keep going you're nearly there! - you are doing really well'. I always run as if I havn't got another mile in me, but please remember I am the Chairman of the self preservation society!

I ran 15 yesterday but I must  confess to missing out the downs.  However, it was like a sheet of ice particularly at Leigh station (and what about all those cars with the windows smashed! The yobs had a field day.)
I needed to be home for Rangers v Aberdeen at 11:30 so I had to set off early.

I have to admire all who participated and completed- only two dropped out  at 4 and 6 miles respectively.  What a fantastic performance from the Benfleet runners with Jez, Graeme and tony claiming the mens team prize.

This is a fantastic race and probably the hardest of any that I have done.  I almost started swimming , being just a wee fat bloke, at 7 miles just before the castle!

Well done to all- Benfleet Running Club done the Running world proud!
boabmac1

By the way-  well done debbie you weather forecast was spot on!
You are the new ulrika1
JBD

Well this race looked like great fun from what I saw....managed to nip out for an hour to get to the 9 mile mark, just as all the runners came out of the mud bath of the downs to the solid ground just before Leigh Station.

Saw at least 6 people fall over on the downhill bit, reminded me of classic It's a Knockout, only needed the Stuart Hall laugh and a camera and you're talking tv gold !

Lots of smiles though, and for every mud splattered struggler there was a canny smug clean clothed athlete who clearly stayed upright !

I had so much fun there that when i found out my tennis match was cancelled, I carried on over to Canvey to witness many of the same runners i saw at 9 miles finishing off the race....i really really really want to have a go, genuinely jealous of the participants, and well done to the Benfleet boys and especially the girls who did so brilliantly !

Well done to all the marshalls and time recorders, i only dipped in to this race, there were people at their stations for hours getting cold, fair play to them and well done Benfleet RC, lots of runners complimenting the organisation at the finish.

But the race, well, tough doesn't quite describe it, and one lady was saying "never again" at 9 miles and the first thing she said as she crossed the line was........."never again" ! Ah well......she'll get that euphoria of achievement round about now supping a glass of wine  bounce

Good work everybody  cheers
Graham

Add my thanks to all the marshalls, timekeepers, administrators and of course the lovely kitchen wenches slaving away all day. Ho ho.

Can't forget all Clive & Lyn's hard graft in running the event like clockwork, and of course our generous sponsors.

Jez & Lucy truly are the endurance King & Queen of Benfleet (Jez you're the Queen!)

And Bob - you're a wee legend mate.
erasedcitizen

Well done all, I'll look out for the write up in the Echo!

Benfleet runners in the limelight again!  compress
bobby

Benfleet 15

The amazing thing was Bob wasstill smiling when he came over the finish. Excellent job to you Bob and everyone else involved.  Especially the backroom boys who nobody ever sees.  i.e.Lyn, Sue, Carol, Joyce Diane, etc.  And of course all those who ran on Saturday and managed to churn it up nicely for everybody else.  I almost wish I had been there.

Just to say what a well run event yesterday was excellent and friendly Marshalls who considering the condition did a great job.
Will definatley run again.

Quote:
Just a quick note to say thks to everyone for organising the run yesterday.  It was the first time my brother & I have done the Benfleet 15m & it was great fun (cold, windy & wet, but great fun!).  Very well organised.

Quote:
My first B15 yesterday. Course is tough when mixed with that kind of foul weather days previously. Boy did I enjoy myself though.
Thanks to all who organised and marshalled the event. You did a super job…..and what a fantastic technical t-shirt….all for £11.
I’ll be back next year to improve my time……a full ten mins slower than my 15 mile road time!
Thanks again for a great event

Quote:
A huge thank you to you and all of your team for a brilliant day yesterday.  I've never known so much mud, but from the screaming and laughter for the entire mileage, everyone had a great time.
I don't know if you were at the start, but it was hilarious seeing people trying to stay upright, even before the race had begun!
A great day all round, fantastic organisation and amazing support.
Can't wait for next year!
With very best wishes.

Quote:
Many thanks to you and all at the club for organising such a good race yesterday.
Karl C

Quote:
Many thanks indeed for the results table. It was a very tough run,
especially as it was my first B15 encounter, so a big thank you to all of
the organisers and marshals that kept everything going in atrocious
conditions.

Quote:
Just a quick note to say thanks to all involved in staging yesterdays run. It was my first, and a great intro to more formal running. Excellent organisation and marshalling.
Karl C

Quote:
Lots of encouragement and "humour" from the marshalls. I thought very good value too.

And the T Shirt was the best I have ever got at a race.

First class all round.

Quote:
A great fun and dirty race. It made me feel like a kid again! Impeccable organisation and very friendly marshalls

Jez

Graham, thanks for your kind words. It might be funnier to tip you out of our Kayak next Sunday.................... I know how much you love the cold!!!
Karl C

Who won the team prizes then.....??
Karl C

oh yes, it was us wasn't it ?!

Graham

Jez - I was planning on wearing a wetsuit for the entire race.
debbie g

The Echo say a 2 page spread is in tomorrow and they hope to use my photos (shown on this thread above) in Friday's paper with a bit more about the winning teams (who were they again? - oh yes US!).

Comments on RW forum are brilliant  compress

I just wanted to email and thank you for a fab race. My first ever 15 miles & furthest I have ever ran.
It was good fun despite the awful weather, but it was made more bearable by your friendly, happy & very supportive marshalls.
Thank you
Karl C

Thanks to you and your team for putting together a fantastic event.  It was the first time I have run Benfleet 15 and I throughly enjoyed it.

All the marshalls were very encouraging, which was very welcome, especially towards the end.

The T-Shirt is great, I love getting a technical material T-shirt because it means I can wear it during my training without overheating.  The tea and cakes were very welcome and the changing facility great - all these things put together made Benfleet 15 a must for the future.

And NO, I am not making all these up !

Yes!! I have a better keyboard!!

Been telling everybody I see here in Andorra what a fantastic running club we have having just had our men and ladies team take top prizes. Well done again.

Debbie, Can you buy me an echo and I should be over on Tuesday 3rd.
debbie g

Will do Mike and thanks for the international PR !!  Get them all to vote on the Echo awards too!!

Just a quick thanks to all the organisors and marshalls for yesterday race.  As per usual it was well organised, good atmosphere and great value, even the mudfest wasn't as bad as i expected.  Will see you next year!
Karl C

Quote:
Thanks for a fantastic race on Sunday. Furthest I have raced and I must admit I almost crawled the last 2 miles! Extremely tough on the windswept section back from Leigh station, but I loved the mud on the downs! Didn't fall over, but lost a shoe at one stage. Many thanks to all those who organised the event and countless thanks to such great marshalls who were lavish with their smiles, praise and encouragement.
Karl C

Quote:
Many thanks for the results. May I say a big thank you from the Blackheath runners for the wonderful event, the fantastic smiling Marshalls and of course the ladies doing the catering, it was first class all round.
See you next year,
debbie g

Got your paper today Mike.

And wanted to thank everyone who said such nice things about my report today - I was very chuffed  compress

And for those who didn't realise - yes I write the whole report, the Echo change one or 2 words at most in editing (I hate calling people by their surnames for example - I say Lucy they change it to Mancer) but apart from that it's all mine it's just that I'm the ghost writer and get no credit!!  Who cares I'm just happy to see Benfleet in the limelight  compress

As I said before the Echo say there should be another report hopefully with my team photos on Friday so go and pick that paper up as well  cheese
mikemoreton

Thanks Debbie,

Keep telling people to vote, but they just shrug and dare to say ´who´. I then push them down the piste!!

Quads are starting to show signs of use after 3 days of 6 hours per day skiing.

Graham, the apres ski is right up your street.

See you Tuesday

Mike
debbie g

You are getting no sympathy here Mike!  Especially as you haven't got any votes.  I've had votes for Benfleet from Norway!!  Beat that!

See you Tuesday.   bounce
Karl C

Keep working those quads Mike, you will need them at Grt Bentley - I am expecting great things !!
