Beachy Head Marathon: 27/10/2007I know a lot of you have done this one and I was wondering how the club usually enter it? It appears from the official website that the cost of entering is the same whether you are affiliated or not so does this mean we don't use the usual 'club' entry system?
I was looking for a 'late' marathon to attempt and this looks like a challenge!

I've done this for the last two years and I think Bobby normaly sends off entries for everybody but I'm not sure if she is doing it this year, still have a word with her at the club tomorrow and I'm sure she will make it abit clearer for you John.
Its a great Marathon as its all off road and the views are amazing and its definitely a challenge

I definately recommend this marathon, John. You won't do a PB on it, but I find it more satisfying to finish compared to the marathon.
The 'quirks' are good too. The bagpipes, the chalk paths, the bun stop, etc.
As Steve says, the countryside and the views are amazing. Will always remember the scene the first time I ran it with the paragliders just floating off the ridge near 'Bo Peep'.
If you want any training advice for this let me now.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately I won't be able to make the club run tonight (Tuesday) but I will be there Thursday so I 'spect I'll speak to Bobbie about it then.
Any training advice would be great - I picked up (from the library) 'Off Road Running' by Sarah Rowell which at first glance looks like it's got some good info.
Been looking at Karl's Marathon tips as well but I expect I'll need a bit more advice on the long distance side of things as I haven't gone further than the last club run (8.5 miles) off road (and that was flat)!
Stef: Sub 6 would be lovely (and, no matter what I'll get a PB ).
Cheers,
John.

Update for those interested:
Apparently Bobbie isn't doing Beachy Head this year so that means anyone interested will either have to enter individually or someone with some organisational skill (i.e. not me) can use the form to enter all those from the club that wish to take part.
Unless I hear otherwise I'm likely to go down the apply on-line route using the Runners World on-line entry form.
Cheers,
John.

John,
Yes, suggest entering online individually and I know of a few of us who are gonna stay down there Friday & Saturday night so will get the hotel number from Bobby where we stayed last year and book that up individually too.
It's a cracking weekend which I can thoroughly recommend.

as others suggest this is a run to be experienced but I wouldnt call it a race. The mud, steps, bagpipes soup and sticky bun stop make it unique oh and the hills!
Enjoy but its at least plus 30minutes if not nearer 45

Lucy / Sarah,
Thanks for the tips / info. Haven't yet booked a room but have entered the event (so no going back now )
Looking forward to it (in a weird way). Been meaning to do a marathon for years but always expected London to be the first somehow.
Cheers,
John.
