Hello,

May I introduce myself to you as Gareth Picknell of University of Wales Institute Cardiff (UWIC). The reason I am in contact is because I am currently conducting a study as part of my MSc Sport Psychology course and therefore need to recruit participants as part of the data collection process. I am particularly looking for athletes who compete in individual
sports such as athletics, swimming etc.

Thus far I have advertised for volunteers by directly contacting individuals via email or posting an advertisement on a notice board which individuals respond to if interested. Indeed the first procedure appears to be the most successful avenue and therefore I would ask if it would be feasible for me to contact numerous individuals from your club. I am more than willing to attend sessions (if possible) to introduce myself to individuals either prior to or post training.

Not only will this study provide valuable information for my dissertation, but can also provide an insight into the emotional states experienced in the build up to an event, and once known, can lead to better efforts of managing these. This research will hopefully go a long why towards practitioners, coaches and athletes understanding of the implications of managing emotions in sport.

May I emphasise that the protocol will not interfere with athletes training or preparation for competitions as I simply require individuals to complete a series of questionnaires that can be completed in their own time. As you can imagine it is quite difficult to obtain the required amount of individuals to take part, however, this is an integral component of my course, and therefore, I would be extremely grateful for any assistance you can offer on this matter.
