1st July update...
Outdoor training continues at Benfleet Recreation Ground, Brook Road , Benfleet , Essex. We started to use the new equipment this week, which seemed to go down really well with the children. Pictures can be found at http://www.benfleetrunningclub.com/juniors/club/thumbnails/ We have 28 members entered for the Junior Club Championships and Handicap race. Held at the Thrift Green Trotters fun run 20th July. As well as their medals for participating, we will have our own Club Championship trophies, for boys and girls in age groups, a handicap trophy and a team trophy. The team will be picked at random from across all the age groups so it is a fair race. The Handicap trophies (boy/girl) will be taken from previous practice times. We will also have an overall winner boy/girl who will be Club Champions 2008. Last years winner of the fun run was 4:29 secs, so am really hoping our children can challenge for the top spot. To this end, we will be doing a 1 mile (just under) time trial this week, and next week in readiness for the event. This will give us a good indication of predicted times, and also give the children crucial practice at the race distance. It has been agreed to present our own trophies at the next outdoor club training session, which will be 22nd July. A few of us will be staying to picnic and cheer in the adult Benfleet Runners competing in the 10k after the fun run. Membership Fees Most of our regulars have now paid their fees (£ 5) and this runs until November 2008. We now have 58 paid junior members. We may need to amend this figure before we go indoors, dependant upon the cost of the indoor hall. MERCHANDISE Jackets and T-shirts – we have a new list going round for people to put their names down if they would like either, when we do the next order. Jackets are approx. £ 12, and the T-shirts approx £ 5.00. Clive will endeavor to get the batch down prior to the Club Championships. We would hope all members running in the Champs wears Club Kit, or at least a Red Top. (better for the team photo’s ! ) LASTLY, The club will be ONE YEAR OLD in August, so we need idea for a celebratory event – get your thinking caps on !!!
