I have been approached (via a friend, OK it wasn't a friend, it was Godfrey ) to be a guest on the Jimmy Lindsay Saturday Sports Show on local radio to talk about the Junior Running Club.
"Gateway 97.8 is the radio part of Gateway Community Media CIC,
a local company dedicated to local people, staffed by local people and seeking to make our locality a better place to be."
Their last guest was Eamonn Martin, so a lot to live up to !
The show is broadcast from Basildon, and Sarah Norton and myself are hoping to take along a couple of the Juniors to make their mark on local radio as well.
Saturday 23rd October - The show on from 3pm-5pm, but our time slot is 4pm-5pm.
There is room in the studio for guests to come and watch/listen the show, so anyone is welcome.
Just let me know and I will give you all the details.
Enjoy the experience guys. I found it very interesting when I was the guest of BBC Essex to see how things work from the other side. Nice promotion for the juniors and the club.
Eamonn Martin (born October 9, 1958 in Basildon, Essex) is a former elite long distance runner from England. The most recent British male winner of the London Marathon, he ran 2:10:50 to win the 1993 race in a sprint finish against the Mexican athlete Isidro Rico. That race was Martin’s debut marathon. He went on also to win the Chicago Marathon in 1995 (2:11:1.
Eamonn Martin competed at top level on the roads, track and cross-country. His major track title was in the 10000 metres at the 1990 Commonwealth Games, won in a time of 28:08.56. He was National Cross-country Champion in 1984 and 1992, won the Belfast International Cross Country in 1991, and is the current English Cross-Country team manager. He was unsuccessful, however, at the 1984 and 1988 Summer Olympics, finishing thirteenth in the 1984 Olympic 5,000-metre final, and dropping out of the 1988 Olympic 10,000-metre final.
Don't forget to listen to Gateway 97.8 this Saturday.
The Sports Show will include Benfleet Running Club Junior Section from 4pm-5pm.
"Guests live in the studio this week are, Adam Fleming club captain of Hadleigh and Thundersley Cricket Club, also the Benfleet Running Club are in the studio (not all of them), I’m sure they will all jog down the A127 to join in the show."
Sarah Norton, myself, and a couple of the juniors will be talking about Benfleet Running Club Junior Section from 4pm-5pm,
and also spinning our favourite tracks. Not 'arf, pop pickers !

Is it like a local shop for local people? I'll have "I can, I can't" please

I thought he did "This Is Your Life". Ideal subject for a radio show. Although my recollections would be a bit short.... _________________ The hills are alive........
Could have done with hearing Sarah a bit more though Karl Sarah, did they realise you were a calendar babe? This was the bit where we couldn't get the station any more.
