I have not laughed that much in a long time. 100 metre sprints on the school field. The start line, assorted juniors including young Ants, a slip of a girl, maybe 9 years old with so much talent to burn it's scary. Graham and Andy F, two big slabs of men who'd look more at home on a rugby pitch. I called the start and watch Antonia disappear down the field leaving them eating her dust in disbelief. Race two, a look of grim determination in their eyes as they wait for starters orders. They give it everything, full chat, eyes bulging, arms driving, legs hurtling them down the track at maximum effort. Same result. Antonia glides effortlessly to victory. Race three. Deepest reserves are called upon, 120% effort. Graham alas left trailing, Andy edges the race from Ants by a beer belly. Unfair advantage really. He looked genuinely pleased.
I have never seen that much determination from grown men to try and beat a school girl in a foot race. Their faces were a picture that will stay with me for ever. Pure comedy.

LOL that is the funniest thing I have read in ages Graham!
I must get over to the Juniors Club for a good laugh! Remind me not to run...
It also reminds me of something I heard as I arrived at the club just as the Juniors Club was finishing as 2 new girls in the mid teens were returning to their car with their parents - one said "I didn't realise they'd be 10 year olds there - and they were running faster than me!" |

I am so pleased that session was so entertaining for you Graham. Personally I am still recovering, both physically and emotionally.
Graham is right Antonia is seriously fast (and shes not the only one), the minute you start she has a good 5-10 yards on you. I have to agree though, I really enjoyed that session (even though I will be scared for life) I haven't laughed as much for a long time, flat out down the field with Graeme Moore cackling away like a Hyena in my earhole. Very funny.
Debbie you should get down there and join us, it is good fun.
Andy
Oh and Graham please!!! That is not a beer Belly, I prefer to look at it as a Carb storage area. |

Glad too see everyone took great delight in seeing me floundering in last place!!!
In my defence because of my age (i am 5 times ants age) my hearing is not what it used to be. Before I could get out of the blocks she was already 25m in front of me so had no hope of catching her, PLUS Graham gave me the lane where there were so many pot holes, stones and bumps I had to take it easy.
However I took defeat like a man and hid my face until everyone had gone home!
It was great fun and I too had such a laugh. Some of the juniors are very fast!!
