Hello,
After a sabbatical I am back running and to celebrate have entered this fine event. I was actually pressurised into it by Susanne who probably wants to laugh at how out of condition I am now, but I shall have the last laugh after 3 weeks of intensive training (that's not going to happen).
Many from Benfleet doing it ?
PB potential ?

I'm doing it, ran last year as for PB potential a downhill start, flat for 8 miles then you run back up to the finish _________________ Whad'ya mean "Run fat boy, run"? I AM running! |

Well done to all competing today. Graham and Keiron had great runs 16th and 17th Graham just under 61 mins and Keiron about 14 seconds behind. Sadly no Jez today so the men did not feature in the teams. Ladies took the race team win and Essex gold - Julia 1st over 45 in the race results and silver in the Essex Champs. She was 5th (68:25). Nes got a cracking PB 69:26 and was 7th.
Good number of Benfleet vests out today which was nice to see - even if your vest was still awaiting delivery Steve! Well done today Steve you had a great race and thanks for your support and encouragement on the course and Richard and Terry too.
I'm off to wrap up in a blanket with a warm cup of tea and then fall asleep on my sofa! |

Well done to the Benfleet Ladies, Essex Champs, another note for the Yearbook.
4 min PB for me, thanks to the pacing from Lorri for the first 8 miles, I felt bad leaving you, but I knew I was close to a PB so had to push on. _________________ Whad'ya mean "Run fat boy, run"? I AM running! |

Well done girls. Great stuff. I've now written a little script so I every time a post on this forum it populates those 5 words first......
Have to say thoroughly enjoyed the x country yesterday but really didn't enjoy today. Sore legs, a sore head and no Champ to anchor us boys. Although it was good running with Kieron - he had a big pb and upset one his Springfield buddies during the race so a successful day! It was only those final few hills that gave me a chance to pull away a bit but I had to work hard.
And technically a pb for me! Haven't run a 10 miler for years so I'll take it, but feel that going through the 10 mile mark at Gt Bentley 2 mins quicker should be my benchmark. Mind I was chasing Jez again then (and eventually losing out - again!)
How about us fielding a good men's team at Stebbing? I know Kieran is throwing his hat in. |

Report from the slower lane....
Did i enjoy this race ? Don't know, endured it and really pleased with the time given only having done about 60 miles in the last 3 months and slow spasmodic runs at that.
84.08 official time...from about mile 3 I was working out what I would be prepared to accept from this as successful, and settled on a) finishing and b) sub 90 ! Luckily managed to keep it going, getting stronger towards the end, the foundations from all the club runs and training earlier in the year seeing me through I guess.
Loads of people doing some great times, very impressive, well done John with your pb, Vanessa cracked 70 mins well done her, Susanne was pleased with her time coming back ever stronger from injury earlier in the year, Andy H, AndyF, Richard and others doing great times sub or around 70 as a matter of routine it seems, good to meet some new faces and names too....see you down the club, soon, probably, maybe....??! |

Thanks guys (on behalf of the ladies). Struggling to post here today in between rushing to the loo shivering then breaking out in a hot sweat, feeling dizzy and weak and falling asleep on the sofa. I say this not because I want sympathy or as an excuse for a below par run today but to make Jez feel guilty!!!! Obviously I don't know why the champ was missing but Graham had about as much fun as I did running today but he was there (so well done you) - I had to drag myself around the race especially the 2nd half but the entire time I was thinking I have got to finish I'm the 3rd lady in the team. I have to say I was pleased I did it more for the sake of Jules and Nes although a trophy and a gold medal were some consolation and at least gave my travelling support Colin a reason to be there - I had expected he would have driven off in my car by the time I rolled in!
However I would point out that Thurrock took the bronze in the mens and another 14th place in the mens for us would have got the mens bronze for Benfleet. I am sure the champ battling with you Graham would have pulled it off.
Go on guys go for a team at Stebbing so many of you are running so well there is the best chance ever of bagging those prizes.

Well done to everybody who did this race - great to see the ladies team do so well again.
I had to be pleased with a lifetime PB of 1.01.12, a 29 second improvement on Battersea Park this year - although true to form and seeing the glass half empty - I was still peeved at fading in the last 2 miles and not going below 1.01!
I have to say that the first 5 miles seemed great - mostly downhill. I spent almost the entire race on the shoulder of my one-time training parnter Mark Waine (now at Springfield) with Graham just behind us - heavy feet clomping away. Now Mark usually finishes around 2 minutes up the road, so as every mile went by, the confidence grew massively. I felt like we were on for an incredible finishing time - and I was eager to hang on. Maybe too eager - my foot caught Mark's trailing leg a couple of times, the second time drawing an irritable, unsentimental response as Graham looked on in amusement! Needless to say, I dutifully allowed more room for the remainder of the race.
Mile 8 came and the 3 of us were still covered by a blanket - Graham clearly tired from the X-Country on Saturday. Unfortunately, I could not hang on to them up the hilly sections between 8 and 9, although I may have had a chance had it gone to the last, flatter mile. When I turned the last corner - the timing monitor was a lovely surprise although the finish came much sooner than I expected.
All in all, a good day and great to see all the Benfleet vests. |
