Hi Andy
Sam and I have been wanting to have a go at a trail race for a while now so we thought we might give this one a try, although we will probably opt for the Dash - 15K plus the time it is going to take us to find our way back once lost I think will be quite enough!
Any top tips for newbie trail racers gratefully received! You can run as a pair can't you???? Do you think race is ok for beginners?

Hi Sarah
I have not done this particular race before, but it is organised by Springfield Striders and I have run many of their trail races and they have all been well organised with good route descriptions.
I take it you have seen the route descriptions that you are given, they are like the ones for the essex way relay. So if you try to remember the abrieviations before the day it will help you.
There are some shorter trail races before and after this one if they would be better for you. If not go for it, Im sure you will have no problems.
You can run in pairs or teams and many people walk these so theres no pressure, its not a mass start, you start when you are ready.
Any questions let me know.
Cheers

Thank you for that
Yes, we have had a look at some course instructions and I must admit they mean as much to me as binary code but I am sure we will work it out....
It will just make a nice change to plodding out our long runs locally, and the drink at the end will make it all worth while!
I think Sam can only make the Sunday but I might be able to squeeze in a shorter practise trail run before then if there is one locally that you know of?
Thanks!

Ok Darren, let me know when you are joining us next.
Sarah, it's probably a good job you didnt do todays trail as your first. That was tough, very hilly. Also a pretty difficult course, I got lost a few times.
Well done to Andy Ken again, third man.
1. Nick Houghton Nomads 1:06:00
2. Alex Houghton Nomads 1:06:01
3. Andy Kennedy Benfleet 1:06:27
9. Andy Frith Benfleet 1:15:57
41. Lorri Gibson Benfleet 1:51:00
Roll on next week for the Dash Dawdle.

mmm, decisions decisions.
Lost on a hilly course over at One tree hill or Track session.....
Close, but as I understand there is drinking involved at the end of a trail race!!!
Sounds tough but well done to you all for completing it
Looking forward to Sunday, Sam's leading and I'm navigating...God help us!

Want to do the Dawdle but I know I will suffer as per usual, Andy you know all about it, plus you get the pleasure of beating me and see me suffer, but may have a cunning plan, Ive done a dawdle trail before.
Graeme Moore, the boys are back in town! bring it on.
John Hood may be running too.
The Dash would be good as time might be tight for me on Sunday to get back home plus the Essex Way is not too far away now so this would be good training.
Oh decisions decisions, either way I will be doing something.
Are there any meeting arrangements as yet? |

| No plans yet Andy, we will have to sort something later in the week. Should be able to get all the Dawdlers in one car and maybe the people doing the Dash may want to leave a little later. |

We have space in the car for 3 Dash'ers, especially one that knows where we are going!

Well done to all who ran yesterday, a very hot day. The heat certainly took its toll on me, the last couple of miles were a nightmare. Thanks to Andy H for getting me through it.
Well done to Sarah and Sam on completing their first trail run, hope you both enjoyed it.

Hey, well done to everyone who took part in the dash/dawdle! Cant believe the two Andy's time, that was an incredible run.
It was unbelievably hot and I have never been so happy to see a random table by the side of a road with tepid water and digestive biscuits half way round!
Thanks to Andy F the advice, we got round without getting lost but did stop at each junction for the first 4 miles or so and have a long debate about what the instructions actually meant but by the second half we had got the hang of it.
By the last mile my brain was so dehydrated I should have written L and R on each hand for reference and Sam didnt actually care where we ended up as long as it was in a pub...but it was great fun and we are looking forward to the next one.
