Are there any Benfleet runners in this? What is it like. I am the slowcoach who aims to sprint, erm no, run, erm Jog? this in approx 2hrs 30, which would better my previous, (one and only so far) Half Marathon

Dont suppose there are any runners doing 12 minute miles who care to accompany me ?

Dont worry if not, I will still go anyhow!!!

Also, only started running last September (my first run lasted 1 minute!!)

Regards to all

Mike

Good on you Mike. Glad to see you've been bit by the bug. There's always a real good Benfleet turn out for this with loadsa support. Hopefully Captain's warm weather training in the Algarve doubled up with an early application of his tan in a bottle will hold him in better stead for the conditions this year.

Ah well, to be young again.........lol

mmmmmmmm Beers.......... now theres a better thought!!

ooops, THE diet!!

Mike, if I remember it was a tad warm last year. The Forum was full of people whingeing and whining about it.

However, I for one was saddened to think that this great 'caring Club - my arse' had let them all down by not providing a weather forecast and a cunning strategy namely - drink when you are thirsty and carry fluid just in case......

Karl,

Many thanks for that. As previous post, Graham has time to get the beers in as we saunter past The Rose.

Seriously though, I would like to improve my 2 hr 42 from Paddock Wood on April 1st. So if anyone is interested in cajoling me through, let me know please.

Yes, I maged the London Marathon, but wasnt prepared for the weather. I just wanted to finish on the same day as I started. lol

Still running approx 12 minute miles.........

Any takers?

Mike (Moreton),

You seem like a nice enough fella but you do realise that you've completely blown my quick and dirty method of insulting, sorry making intelligent replies to Mike Mason's posts as you both have the same initials!

Do you have a middle name or nickname as I'm set in my ways and could suffer untold stress if I possibly insult/consult the wrong Mike?

Back on topic I too am planning on doing this Half (my first in 20 odd years) but I'm hoping to be doing around 9 minute miles so not much use to you sadly.

Glad to see a MM so enthusiastic about running and not going on about an over indulgence of Benfleet 15 memorabilia and a lack of baked sweet-meats.

Cheers,

John

Jack,

Many thanks for your concern. However, I get insulted most days anyhow, so i guess another wont hurt. Actually I probably insult myself........dunno really.

Anyhow, I dont really have a nickname, but have been called many things in my 46 years on this planet!!!
So, if you want to be the first to make one up then feel free!
Have been known to answer to Mikey, but theres one here already

Middle name is Andrew, so initials would be MAM, which for the purpose of this site, and this site only, would be ok to use.

Thanks for offering to run at 9 minute miles with me. But its either I keep up until Thorpe Bay roundabout and collapse in a heap, or I just lose you from the start of Garrons Roundabout....... Thanks all the same though. much appreciated.

Maybe some others out there?

Just try singing some of that Banana Splits Theme Song while you are running around. Surely put your mind off the heat if its hot or anything else in fact.

The capt will make a rare appearance in club colours tmrw after recovering from injury where last year he collapsed on the indoor tennis courts & after waking from a coma received his first kiss & cuddle by a colleague.

Some idiot took race tactics to a bit of a new level and pushed godfrey into a car cutting his arm and leg.Godfrey being a gentleman didnt want a fuss made, but isnt that assault? His name as printed on his t shirt was BEN (not very bright either) and I believe his race number was 535(best double check that before the lynch mob goes round). I am sure we could ban him from any of our races!

Being new to the club, not sure who Godfrey is, but hope that hes ok.

Looking on the photo website, 535 doesnt have his name on the front, But i guess you only saw the back of him?

White top, khaki shorts?

No worries Mike, I don't know him either.
I think he is a friend of Mike Mason (oh and Mike Jordan).

How did you get on in the heat yesterday ?
Saw you come in.

Karl, I found it quite hard and the sun was quite hot for me. was pleased to finish in under 3 hours, and not be last but knew at mile 9 that a PB wasnt on the cards........Oh well always next time.

How did you get on? When will the times be out? Did you run home?

Assume results will be on

http://www.joelee.co.uk/resindex.html

Gary and Me wimped out and got a lift home (yes, OK Jez, just leave it)

We thought a 20 mile round trip was more than enough in that heat.

We did the first 7 miles in 1:08 and
then I did 2:10 (Gary 2:14) for the race.

(thanks for the lift Peter!)

Well done.

I am getting a lynch mob together, for Godfrey's bullyboyBen.
Wanna join ?
