For those wanting a lift or wanting to follow someone to South Weald so you don't get lost, we will be meeting at Tarpots opposite the snooker centre at 9 am.

For those with spikes, judging the by rain forecast over the next few days you will be needing 12 at the very least or 15mm spikes!

Yeah very disappointing for the new captain to see our season spanning undefeated streak come to an end. What's the phrase about cheats & prospering........?

Listen, I didnt realise I cut the last corner, it was the marshall's fault....honest! I think I was home and dry by then anyway! Pretty disappointed we lost our winning streak, maybe the double header stretched us somewhat. A real cross country course as supposed to Dunton, boggy in places, lots of hills and even the odd log jump.

***RACE REPORT***

A slightly smaller womens team than normal took 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 9th, 11th I think. Put this next to the supurb 3rd team place they took the day before in the Essex League then you realise how much depth they have. Special mention for Jacqui and Lucy who doubled up, hard as nails the pair of em!

Mens team were a little short on numbers also and Graham, Matt and Pete Anderson also had the Saturday race in their legs. Cops managed to squeeze a visit to the Pink Toothbrush in between the races, superb. I placed 4th, my best X-Country finish to date, after being dragged up the hills by G then winding up 800m, benefiting from being rested the day before, to outsprint the group of 4 we were running in...but i'll take a win against the Bearded One any way I can! Graham was 5th, Tony Mead (cult hero) next in 17th, Pete Watson next in, a great performance then Nick, Pete Anderson and Stef being the other scorers I believe. I understand Stef had back trouble half way round and Andy Morris was not feeling too good on the start line... Matt was hungover! Just missed out by 21 places for the win, so with a few more bodies and a bit more luck it could have swung our way.

Let's make sure we have a winning return at our home fixture on Hadleigh Downs in a few weeks. Some of us are planning on going over to the downs on Saturday to review the course, all are welcome, details to be posted during the week.

Copsy - a race the day before, a big night out and still a minute quicker than the last time in Feb. It's all about the preparation my boy!

Congratulations to all of you - some extremely noteworthy performances for both the womens and mens teams.  To see the ladies romp home in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 9th, 10th, and 11th speaks for itself - ably backed up by numerous others inside the top 40 whose achievements were every bit as important in overhauling the other teams.

As for the mens side, it is superb to see a return to form for Mike, up in his best-ever 4th.  Graham still got round in 5th despite a second days racing.  The evergreen Tony Mead chipped in with a solid 17th place, and Peter Watson must have run out of his skin to land 23rd.  Behind that, it is good to see the nucleus of Nick, Peter, and Steff (not withstanding a bad back) to come home not long after.

And let's not forget the likes of the insanely unlucky Matt Cops (whose pink toothbrush exploits must have cost him those 2 seconds to overhaul Steff and a scoring place) - as well as Andy Frith and Steve Dear along with many others.  Their achievements bumped down many competitors of other teams, helping us to cement the close 2nd to an over-strong Billericay side enjoying their home race.

From Debbie...

Hi Mike well done Sunday excellent result :- ) can you do me a favour? Been checking the forum on my BlackBerry and its mega hard to log in so I can't post. I am in Las Vegas! Can you post this for me please - Well done to you all on Sunday. Okay it wasn't a win but a damned impressive performance nonetheless. And we are still holding 1st place overall so a win at Hadleigh is a must! I am currently on holiday in Las Vegas but my heart is in muddy and rainy Essex (yeah right) and although I can access the forum posting is tricky so I have asked Mike to post this for me. I have done a long distance report to the Echo which will appear Friday. Apologies for all the references to Billericay but I have been asked to include them too :-(so I need a win next race guys so there will be minimal reference to the men in blue vests).  Oh and I expect a victory over Crispian next race Mike ;- )

Thanks for posting for me Mike.  I have access to a laptop now.  Just want to let you all know the Echo say that the article on this race will go in the paper tomorrow and the Essex League will go in Friday.

I have also booked a photographer for our race at Hadleigh so I need all you fast boys out there racing so we get some cracking Benfleet pics again.

Whilst I shudder to say this I may even be racing there myself.  Run out of holidays to use as an excuse not to run!!!!   Rolling Eyes

I'll match Jez! There is a condition though.....two lots of sponsorship = 2 races. Essex league or South Essex, I dont mind.

Had a cheeky couple of laps round the course today, lots of hills and mud Debs. Praying for lots more rain now.

Sounds a bit namby pamby.......

You could join me on that day for a mini mountain marathon in the Peak District, instead.

As above but better.  Bigger hills, stronger winds, deep bogs, fog, rain, streams in torrents, ankle breaking tussocks, lacerating heather, few paths, getting lost.  Good chance of snow up on the tops too.

3 hours of FUN FUN FUN

Tempting offer Mark but I believe I am washing my hair that day  Rolling Eyes

Okay guys 2 races it is - Hadleigh so Mike can take cracking photos of the unadulterated bliss on my face and Hockley Essex League - Gail tells me there is a bridge on that course too but it is hopefully not the sort where I have to grab the nearest runner to get across it as most ladies seem to object to letting me hold their arm in fact I am more likely to be elbowed off the side of the bridge.  So the ultimate joy for me - mud hills rain (inevitable now following Graham's rain dance) and a bridge - my world is complete!

I will be waiting at the finish of the Hadleigh race to collect Jez and Graham, muddy and moaning!

The sacrifices I make for Benfleet... Shocked
