The first round of the cross country will be held at:-

Ford Dunton technical centre,
Laindon,
Basildon,
Essex
SS15 6EE

Your club members will need to come off the A127 and go through the security gate (which will be open) and proceed
to car park C - parking is free
This will be signed posted on the day. Toilets will be available in the main foyer, and the Ford Motor company have stated that we need to ensure that no one uses the trees or bushes to relieve themselves as there are camera's & motion sensors around the track & Dunton site. If anyone is caught doing this the race will be cancelled. Race starts at 10.30 & the cost is £2.00 per competitor

The course is one lap and 4.2 miles. If you want a lift or follow someone to Fords then we can meet at Tarpots. opposite the snooker centre, at 9.10 am. Remember that the clocks go back though so an extra hours sleep before the big race  Very Happy

I am absolutely gutted to write this but it looks like I will be forced to miss Sunday's race.

I have been experiencing chest pains throughout the week.  Yesterday when I went out for a run, I was completely out of breath after less than a hundred metres and the heart was pounding.  I have a doctor's appointment on Monday to check everything but I have been advised (very strongly in the case of my pregnant partner!) not to do any running until then.

I am very sorry to miss this as I was really looking forward to helping the team effort.  Hopefully everything is ok and I can return as normal during the next week or so.

I am awaiting Graham's paraphrasing of this with interest....

Hope it goes OK tomorrow dude. Hate to disappoint but I just can't think of any sledging to give you. When they tell you it's nothing serious then I'm sure we can give you some grief.

Great start to the league picking up from last year with another great win on a thankfully uninspiring flat course - made Stubbers look technical. Can't remember the points tally, but as ever the lasses mullered the rest of the field, picking up all but 5th & 10th places in the top 10 postions. They were of course well supported by us boys, Jez (3rd) and young(ish)Mike B (7th) were our two men in the top 10, with winning girl Stacey (5th) sandwiched in between them - not a position I'd like to be in for sure....

Another season undefeated?

Right - come you Irons. Lets keep it to single figures.....

Sorry you couldn't make it Keiron, hope its not too serious and you are back with the team to play a part in the epic double header in 3 weeks.

19 gents and about 14 ladies started the race today, a terrific turnout and no doubt a big reason for our success. The ladies were in devastating form, picking up the minimum 6 points with a 1-2-3 ......4-6-7-8-9!!

As G mentioned, they were supported well by the boys with Champ Jez leading the way. 7th place was a welcomed return to form for me after time out from injury, with the course suiting me, flat and short! Team prize goes to Graham for just showing up after Beachy Head Marathon the day before, not to mention placing 13th. Notable mentions for Nick Rankin who squeezed the race in before his Sunday afternoon tee off (and is running supurbly of late), Tony Mead who is quickly becoming my cult hero, and Matt Copps with his best ever x-country finish. Good show guys and gals, double header in 3 weeks, who's on for both?

Well done all, nice to get a season opening win under our belts. Got to say that was a totally uninspiring course, flat, no mud and reminded me of laps round my old school field! It also must be the first x country where I have taken a dirty pair of trainers to race in and they have ended up cleaner than when I started. The ladies once again dominated, but would like to think ,if we had our strongest mens team out, we could also pepper the top ten! Very pleased with my 3rd place, managed to come 4th in the Grim duathlon last Saturday so a good week for me.I am now hoping for a 2nd and a 1st in my next two races  to complete the set! (fat chance!)

Hope all goes well today Keiron and your back running asap.

Thank you guys - I was pestering Vikki yesterday morning constantly, protesting I felt good, but to no avail.  The diagnosis turned out to be inflammation of the rib section - nothing more than that.  I'm not sure what would be worse - having a bad diagnosis or experiencing the sledging!

Well done to all the guys and the ladies who ran - the results speak for themselves.  2 heros have to be Mike Briggs (he of the pain-killing injections) and Graham (13th after a marathon and probably an even longer booze-up).  Roll on the next one!

Belated well done to all at the 1st cross country and for making my job so easy - we were lucky enough to have an official Echo photographer at the 1st race and a full page spread today (the photographer had instructions to pick out Benfleet runners!!) and I think it has come out really well - so check out your photos front runners Jez, Mike and Tony and of course our star Stacey.

The gauntlet has been well and truly thrown down now guys so I need you all running at your best so we keep that trophy  Smile

And so I get to gush about Benfleet in the Echo  Very Happy

I saw Fridays echo yesterday thinking I might have gotten a mention after a 3 month haitus from the local press, only to find a few cracking pictures of me and the team, the one at the top looks like I might even be winning! Thanks deb, I cut that one out for my mum!
