JogLe News Letter
The club has a history encouraging ordinary people to tackle extra-ordinary events. In 1990 it was born out of an epic run across America, in 2000 to celebrate our 10th anniversary we ran the length of the river Thames.
So to celebrate our 20th anniversary in 2010 we looked for something equally challenging, and the idea of the JogLe was born. The plan being to do a 12 day long distance relay from John o’Groats to Lands End taking in the most stunning scenery on route.
The Highland Section – ( Sun 9th May – Thur 13th May )
This is the furthest section from home, and should provide the most stunning scenery of the whole trip. From John o’Groats we run down the East coast of Scotland to the Great Glen. We run the full length of Lock Ness, and continue all the way along the Great Glen to Fort William. We then run though the moody and historic Glen Coe, before running though the Northumberland National Park. Finally picking up Hadrians Wall for the last 30 miles.
The Long Weekend – ( Fri 14th May – Mon 17th May )
Aimed at runners who can only get a few days leave, this is a stunning 4 day section. Starting at Hadrians Wall, running though the Yorkshire Dales, and onto the Peak District. Then running though Nottingham Forest, finally picking up the Chilton Hills, finishing off at the famous White Horse of Uffington.
The South West – ( Tus 18th May – Thur 20th May )
The final few days are packed full of interest. Running though the Averbury Stone Circle, onto the Cheader Gorge, before running straight across Datmoor, finally finishing the run hugging the North Cornwall coast to Land’s End.
Currently the plans are well advanced. We’ve planned the route, and have tested a daily operating pattern based on 15 runners, each running for 1 hour per day. This worked well and showed we could do the required daily mileage.
The next stage is to firm up numbers so that we can start booking accommodation. This is clearly a once in a lifetime opportunity, and we think places will fill up quickly. Over the next few weeks Bobby and Clive will be contacting everyone individually to canvass their interest. You can run the whole route, or individual days.
If you’re interested or would like more information please feel free to contact them before they get round to you. Places could well be limited on the most popular sections !
