Marathon de Sables 2008 - The Graham Booty Appreciation Society
28th March - 7th April
The Marathon des Sables is a multi-stage ultra-marathon. It is a 6 day/230km long endurance race. It's run across the Sahara Desert in Morocco and takes place every Spring. You have to be almost entirely self sufficient carrying all your own food, cooking, sleeping and survival equipment. You get rationed several litres of water each day, handed out at stations and do get to share a tent with your fellow competitors as the end of each leg. The terrain ranges from sand dunes to rocky uneven ground and the day time temperatures reach 120 degF.

Thanks Karl et all. Had my first run today since the ultra and knee seems to have held up OK. Admittedly it was only 1 hour's fell running without a pack. Tomorrow the sand dunes at Studland naturalist beach. Think I'll be keeping my running short on though....
If anyone feels like sending me some abuse whislt I'm out there details below. My number is 674 BOOTY Graham GB.
COMMUNICATIONS
AOI has a web-site so that your friends loved ones, sponsors and admirers can follow your progress each day. The address for this is www.darbaroud.com Each day, the organisers list all that day’s results with times and positions. Messages can be sent to you on this site from 30 March until 5 April. Our experience is that unfortunately, some of these messages do not reach the competitors. In order to send a message, they will need to go to www.darbaroud.com web site and under the special heading “ecrire aux concurrents” (write to competitors) fill in a message form which will require your surname, first name and ID number (DOS number – running number). They must ONLY send text messages and NOT attachments or pictures. Messages are posted each evening for all competitors and there is no charge for receiving messages. You can also send out messages by e-mail from the communications tent, which is set up each day from 25 March. |

Graham,
apart from all the physical and mental abuse of this race the big problem will be that you will keep wanting to come back for more.
Good luck and good running. |
