I'll try to follow you round Hastings Andy!
26 miles - I hope it's not 2 laps of the course I did 2 weeks ago- I'm still in recovery.  The atmosphere and spectator support are fantastic at the half-marathon so I hope it will be the same for this historic event.  If the finish is on the seafront I will definitely walk into to sea to cure my aching limbs(cold shock treatment highly recommended by Clive)-December!!!
It surely can't be any worse than three laps of Luton in torrential rain and hurricane winds.

Good news that you are both joining me on this one, sounds like a great event.
Hopefully we can get a few more BRC members to join us and make this a great weekend.
As for the cold shock treatment Bob,  if you are up for it I will join you for a swim/dip after the run, providing we can have a quick pint to rehydrate afterwards.

Now! Who else is going to join us, Cmon you know you want too!

Looks like I am in as well, just signed up to do my first marathon and its happening in December I am I mad, stupid, both or just an idiot. Andy F has a lot to answer to, I need to do this so any help over the next 8.5 months will be most welcome.

It's the people down there - you start off running a few miles and feel quite good, then they talk about their weekend runs of 10,13,18 miles and you think "why?!" and then a few months later suddenly you're doing a half marathon, 20 miles, benfleet ultra and lining up your first marathon.

It happened to me....and I'm completely sane.....gibber gibber geek

Actually if you don't get offers of a training plan following your post, seek out one of the coaches down the club who will probably be pleased to help....something I should have done really. If this sunday goes ok, I might do another one....

Please!!!!   Ernie/Mike its not that kind of weekend. Its Hastings not Brighton. ky

We now have another 2 runners Lorri and Lorraine have now entered. Also I think Phils up for it!

If he enters we will have 8, surely we can get at least 10 people to the start.  Ernie, Mike? Sounds like there is a room waiting!

Cheers

Thanks for the route Karl!

A six mile steady warm up and then take the brakes(or my usual breaks) off and a PB for sure.

Andy F seems to have inspired a team to run this event.

http://www.hastings-marathon.org.uk/

As entries approach the 1000 mark for this exciting and unique Event, the organisers have announced that they will allow entries to continue pass the 1000 figure to satisfy the steady demand to enter.
It is aimed to give regular updates on this web site over the next few months, with the aim to send out Race Numbers and information in early November.

This would be followed by sending the Special Anniversary Souvenir Programme direct to entrants about a week before the Event.

It is advised to book early for accommodation for the Saturday Night and Sunday Night, and there wil be special pre-race entertainment arranged at venues.

The White Rock Hotel, Lansdowne Hotel, Chatsworth Hotel, Hotel Lindum,Castle Hill Guest House, Castleview Guest House, are ideal for Town Centre, and not far away is Grand Hotel.

Or you can go to    www.accommodationinhastings.co.uk

Took part in the centenary Swanage road race at the weekend, its evolved over the years and is now a ridiculously hilly half marathon and we had gorgeous blisteringly hot conditions. This year instead of the standard medal all runners got presented a lovely little glass trophy to commemorate.......hoping Hastings do something similar coz I'm in as well! Yay!

Very impressive Graham 9th at Swanage how can you run that fast on a hilly course in heat?! Serious respect to you.

At the risk of repeating myself I won't be doing Hastings - why HILLS!!!!

I did the half Bob - back in 2004.  I was pretty fit then but after the 4th mile uphill I couldn't fight my natural urge to slow on hills and decided there was no shame in an 8 minute mile!  Even the prospect of the faster 2nd half didn't make it any more bearable particularly as they still slipped in the odd incline again and the lovely flat last 2 miles were into wind.  cyclops_ani  I hated every minute of it!!

I vowed then I would never ever run Hastings again and funnily enough I haven't  blackeye

However good luck to all of you nutters - have fun!

You mean it's not full up yet?  I was thinking of waiting a month or so to respond to you Karl in the hope it had reached it's entry quota by then...

However I've thought of another excuse I've just agreed to an office boozy Christmas night out on the 12th and I won't be in any fit state to do a marathon after that...  drunken

If that's not good enough then I'll have to resort to "no way I'm not running a hilly marathon ever!!"  I have nightmares of that hill at mile 22 at Malta when it was supposed to be a PB course - yeah right!

Last excuse might be Coach insists I do that awful x-country on the Saturday - lesser of the 2 evils... cyclops_ani

Debbie,

Dont forget our dinner date on Dec 13th. That will be pretty boozy too. You could always come to Hockley Woods on 14th for a small jaunt.

Ooo yes forgot our dinner date Mike looks like the list of excuses is expanding.

Are you talking about that French marathon with the wine stops as the marathon Mike needs to get focused on training for Karl?

I reckon I could do well at that one - a wine PB perhaps?  drunken

Karl

None taken, but I would be interested in doing the vineyard one. Imagine doing a marathon and knowing noting about it?
Hangover plus aching limbs

Count me in!!

I am almost up to speed on the wine bit, (and the whine), just need to run a little further.

Incidentally, after tonight it seems IanJ and myself, plus any others, would be keen to expand the mileage on the sunday runs. Perfect!! run 10 miles or so, sup a few glasses after

(JEZ- dont look!!!)

Great News that you have joined us Graham and Vic, Lorri and I are also staying at the travelodge and I think Lorraine is too.
As you say Karl, we will all have to meet up for the Saturday night somewhere.
Better start upping the training miles then.

Oooer, I have just on four months to get ready for this event after over a year of doing faff all and putting on 3 stone!

But accomodation is booked and I better get myself in gear.

If anyone needs a bed for that night I have booked a family room (Travel Lodge)

Cheers
