This is going to be seriously muddy now. Ran the downs bit to leigh Station last Sunday and it was bad! It will be really treacherous! Excellent sorts the men from the boys.............. And the ladies from the girls! _________________ Jez

I can confirm that Jez, I ran/swam the course with Graeme Moore this morning and the Downs are quite badly flooded. The hill and top section before the station is unbelievably slippery, you will need something with plenty of grip on your feet.
I am unfortunatley working all weekend, so will not be able to be out there to support all those racing.
So good luck to you all, and to those Marshalling.
Your going to need it.
Cheers

unfortunately I have been exiled to Romania for 6 months and will be flying over the course as the race starts. Hope that the weather is really really horrible....
The good news, for me at least, is that I will be back soon. It did seem like a drastic action to not have to watch Spurs playing regularly...but there you go.
All the best to you all....

The wind looks like a southwesterly on Sunday so if I'm right it should push us a long on the way back from Leigh. Good O. _________________ http://acmdrivingschool.com |

Aren't you running westerly on the way back surely?
I'm not sure you'll find the wind helpful from that direction, I'd make the most of it on the way out. |

Does this mean you will be adding another pristine Benfleet 15 number to your collection?
Are you just going to keep entering until you get a number you like?
Enjoy/endure Romania! _________________ Jez

Ah don't despair Tony you'll be fine my forecast says the wind is predominantly southerly at worst SSW - so still more southerly than west so it won't be right in the face on any long stretches. It will be a bit strong early on but is easing through the morning so I think it's been worse at other times when you've run the Benfleet 15. Am I cheering you up yet? Honestly I think you'll do well on this we have a great Benfleet mens team running with you Jez and Graham - go for it - team prize is up for grabs guys!
Good luck Tony I'll be waiting at the finish for a classic quote |

It will be raining the entire duration of the race though...
but I'm sure that won't bother you tough guys
Us marshals will probably be moaning more !!
and the forecast could always change... |

It is grim out there....with my own training run scuppered fttb, and no prospect of tennis, sorely tempted to see the sights of mud covered runners at the other end of the downs at around 10/11 miles....!
Good luck to all the runners and the marshalls ! |

| Well done to all who ran todays race in rotten conditions. We had lots of comments from runners as they came through the finish line on the quality of the organisation and the helpfulness and encouragement of the marshalling. Well done to all of you. It wasn't fun out there but it makes you proud to be Benfleet. |

I would also like to add well done and thanks to Terry and Karl - can't believe any other club would get the results out that quickly on the website and I've emailed the full report to the Echo by 5.15 pm! What a team we are!
Thanks to the winning teams both men and ladies for posing for photos for me and I even got printable quotes from both Jez and Lucy!! - hope they print them!
WELL DONE BENFLEET, brilliant results in the race and excellent marshalling and organisation as ever |

Ah ah Lucy I just stand around earwigging things you say to each other and grab the best quote! It wasn't much you were just decribing the course and so was Gail - I put both in anyway. Jez made a throw away remark I latched onto as well. I certainly wasn't printing what Graham said as he came through the finish line!!!
Enjoy the champers both of you, well done you were both truly awesome |

Thanks for the opportunity of running sweeper. It was great to be last with a licence. But I did get tired of people telling me 'well done, keep going you're nearly there! - you are doing really well'. I always run as if I havn't got another mile in me, but please remember I am the Chairman of the self preservation society!
I ran 15 yesterday but I must confess to missing out the downs. However, it was like a sheet of ice particularly at Leigh station (and what about all those cars with the windows smashed! The yobs had a field day.)
I needed to be home for Rangers v Aberdeen at 11:30 so I had to set off early.
I have to admire all who participated and completed- only two dropped out at 4 and 6 miles respectively. What a fantastic performance from the Benfleet runners with Jez, Graeme and tony claiming the mens team prize.
This is a fantastic race and probably the hardest of any that I have done. I almost started swimming , being just a wee fat bloke, at 7 miles just before the castle!
Well done to all- Benfleet Running Club done the Running world proud! |

Well this race looked like great fun from what I saw....managed to nip out for an hour to get to the 9 mile mark, just as all the runners came out of the mud bath of the downs to the solid ground just before Leigh Station.
Saw at least 6 people fall over on the downhill bit, reminded me of classic It's a Knockout, only needed the Stuart Hall laugh and a camera and you're talking tv gold !
Lots of smiles though, and for every mud splattered struggler there was a canny smug clean clothed athlete who clearly stayed upright !
I had so much fun there that when i found out my tennis match was cancelled, I carried on over to Canvey to witness many of the same runners i saw at 9 miles finishing off the race....i really really really want to have a go, genuinely jealous of the participants, and well done to the Benfleet boys and especially the girls who did so brilliantly !
Well done to all the marshalls and time recorders, i only dipped in to this race, there were people at their stations for hours getting cold, fair play to them and well done Benfleet RC, lots of runners complimenting the organisation at the finish.
But the race, well, tough doesn't quite describe it, and one lady was saying "never again" at 9 miles and the first thing she said as she crossed the line was........."never again" ! Ah well......she'll get that euphoria of achievement round about now supping a glass of wine
Good work everybody |

Add my thanks to all the marshalls, timekeepers, administrators and of course the lovely kitchen wenches slaving away all day. Ho ho.
Can't forget all Clive & Lyn's hard graft in running the event like clockwork, and of course our generous sponsors.
Jez & Lucy truly are the endurance King & Queen of Benfleet (Jez you're the Queen!)
And Bob - you're a wee legend mate. |

| The amazing thing was Bob wasstill smiling when he came over the finish. Excellent job to you Bob and everyone else involved. Especially the backroom boys who nobody ever sees. i.e.Lyn, Sue, Carol, Joyce Diane, etc. And of course all those who ran on Saturday and managed to churn it up nicely for everybody else. I almost wish I had been there. |

Will definatley run again. |
| Quote: | | Just a quick note to say thks to everyone for organising the run yesterday. It was the first time my brother & I have done the Benfleet 15m & it was great fun (cold, windy & wet, but great fun!). Very well organised. |
| Quote: | My first B15 yesterday. Course is tough when mixed with that kind of foul weather days previously. Boy did I enjoy myself though.
Thanks to all who organised and marshalled the event. You did a super job…..and what a fantastic technical t-shirt….all for £11.
I’ll be back next year to improve my time……a full ten mins slower than my 15 mile road time!
Thanks again for a great event |
| Quote: | A huge thank you to you and all of your team for a brilliant day yesterday. I've never known so much mud, but from the screaming and laughter for the entire mileage, everyone had a great time.
I don't know if you were at the start, but it was hilarious seeing people trying to stay upright, even before the race had begun!
A great day all round, fantastic organisation and amazing support.
Can't wait for next year!
With very best wishes. |

All the marshalls were very encouraging, which was very welcome, especially towards the end.
The T-Shirt is great, I love getting a technical material T-shirt because it means I can wear it during my training without overheating. The tea and cakes were very welcome and the changing facility great - all these things put together made Benfleet 15 a must for the future. |
And NO, I am not making all these up !

Extremely tough on the windswept section back from Leigh station, but I loved the mud on the downs! Didn't fall over, but lost a shoe at one stage. Many thanks to all those who organised the event and countless thanks to such great marshalls who were lavish with their smiles, praise and encouragement. |
